# Introduction to Regenerate Skagit **Welcome!** This note introduces **Regenerate Skagit**, our community-driven initiative in the Skagit watershed, and explains how we plan to integrate HackMD into our workflow. --- ## Mission and Tasks **Mission:** To cultivate a shared understanding of the Skagit watershed and support regenerative practices by documenting ecological, social, and cultural systems, connecting community knowledge with actionable insights. **Key Tasks:** - Bioregional mapping of ecological and social systems. - Supporting local regenerative programs and initiatives. - Building transparent, collaborative workflows for community knowledge. - Sharing insights, data, and narratives openly while keeping content portable. --- ## About Regenerate Skagit Regenerate Skagit is a place-based project focused on building relationships between people, land, and water in the Skagit Valley, Washington. We bring together growers, local residents, and organizations to co-create knowledge and solutions that support community resilience and environmental stewardship. **Website & Online Presence:** - Website: [https://regenerateskagit.org](https://regenerateskagit.org) - Instagram: [@regenerateskagit](https://www.instagram.com/regenerateskagit/) --- ## Integration of HackMD into Our Workflow HackMD will serve as the **collaborative hub** for documentation, mapping, and knowledge sharing. **How we will use HackMD:** - Draft, review, and refine mapping layers, data sources, and narratives. - Provide a transparent platform for community contributions. - Maintain portable Markdown notes that can feed into our static site, data visualizations, and project reports. - Document workflows, technical processes, and project decisions in a collaborative, accessible way. **Workflow Example:** 1. Contributors create and edit notes in HackMD. 2. Notes are reviewed and refined by the editorial team. 3. Approved notes are exported to our GitHub repo and integrated into the Regenerate Skagit site. 4. Community feedback is collected and incorporated iteratively. --- ## Recent Projects and Programs - **Project Heron:** A roadmap for local regenerative agriculture and community engagement. [Roadmap link](https://github.com/jschappet/heron/blob/main/ROADMAP.md) - **Bioregional Mapping:** Documenting ecological, social, and cultural systems across the Skagit watershed. ## Connection to Regenerate Cascadia Regenerate Skagit is proud to be part of the broader **Regenerate Cascadia** network, a regional initiative focused on regenerative practices, bioregional understanding, and community resilience across the Cascadia bioregion. This connection allows us to: - Share knowledge and resources across local initiatives. - Collaborate on mapping, regenerative agriculture, and watershed projects. - Learn from and contribute to a network of communities committed to ecological and social regeneration. Through this partnership, Regenerate Skagit situates local work within a **larger bioregional context**, strengthening both local and regional impact. **Learn more about Regenerate Cascadia:** [https://regeneratecascadia.org](https://regeneratecascadia.org) --- ## Domain Knowledge Sharing Regenerate Skagit focuses on the following knowledge domains: - Place-based ecological understanding of the Skagit watershed. - Regenerative farming and land stewardship practices. - Community engagement and participatory mapping methodologies. - Open, portable documentation and collaborative workflow management. This knowledge will be shared publicly in HackMD notes, enabling collaboration with other local initiatives and global audiences interested in bioregional and regenerative practices. --- **Contact:** For more information or questions, reach out via [skagit@regeneratecascadia.org](mailto:skagit@regeneratecascadia.org).
