# RBG Meeting Notes 10-18-21 ###### tags: `ReallyBoringGuild` ### How do we decentralize the grant pipeline procedures? * Do we need to operate according to the v1 handbook? No! They are changing * Archiveability is great about Discord, but separate groups for every step is tedious. * Due diligence, but not gadfly with following up on grantees * 80% of the grants are already pre-curated, so maybe not so much energy needed for solicitation * We can focus on the projects that have already been signalled to support: Ameen, Vitalik, community building, ETH Cat Herders. How do we focus on them? What are next steps? ### We should declare the grant pipeline schedule ASAP * Update the application process on the website - first we need to agree on it * v2 handbook will outline it ### Provisional Sketch of the Pipeline Schedule **November 1st: Applications on the Forum Are Open** **November 29th-December 5th: Proposals can be submitted on-chain (not yet sponsored)** **December 6th-13th : Proposals are all sponsored at once, initiating 7 days On-chain voting period** **December 13th-20th: 7d day grace period** **December 21st: Proposals processed** ### Grantee Onboarding Procedures? * To consider in drafting v2 handbook: how to incentivize/encourage/engage new grantees to maintain shares and participate in the DAO as members? ### Annual Report * We need to create a process where we generate sentiment on proposals - we might consider doing this at the beginning of the year, rather than right before the pipeline. * Released in January (?) to instigate discussion amongst members about the years grant interests. * February: DAO discussion on topics * March: publish to the public, outlining DAOs interest ### Alternative Funding Proposal Strategies * Superfluid stream to projects like ETH cat herders (except superfluid integration in DAOhaus doesn't work on Ethereum Mainnet 😔) # Post-Meeting Notes from Travis ### We need to define some core member policies * How much tribute do individuals pay? * How do we award grants now that we're on v2? Member shares or just loot? * How does our desire for increased member participation factor in to the grant process? ### We need to use Discord to publicize our ambitions with the next pipeline * Create new channels on various topis: * the handbook changes currently happening * the handbook funding proposal to decentralize/open-source the docs * budget for the grant pipeline Ann is working on * grant priorities - TBD by the members, not RBG! Including all the current grant ideas we current have collected: * MC * MGD * RBG * DG * How the PoH bounty will work * How non-token governance will be incentivized * Shares vs loot for grant distributions * Symbolic membership shares to reboot our community: * Yalor * Spencer * Who else? *Add names here* * RBG becoming autonomous (ReallyBoringDAO) * or dissolved * referencing other DAO strategies for organizing working groups * sub-DAO treasury flows for compensation * the next RBG proposal should be focused on decentralizing the fuck out of MolochDAO * **we can use the remaining ops budget (at the end of the year) to pay tribute for assembling a new RBG team of contributors, sourced from other DAOs** * Retire/archive the previous grant pipeline channels * Do they need to be kept for all eternity? Can they be deleted? * Need to articulate Discord admin vision ### We should use Discourse for conversation about specific proposals. Discord sucks for this. * Can be setup on the v2 DAO. We should start using it immediately. * Anyone can submit a proposal to the forum and attach it to their on-chain proposal. * Members can comment on proposals in public and use Discord for DAO-focused internal convos * Provides transparency to the rest of the ecosystem ### New Grant Pipeline Procedures 1. Anyone submits a proposal to the forum. RBG provides a template (to be found in the handbook). Incorrectly formatted proposals are rejected. 2. RBG tracks and links forum activity to Discord, creates unique channels for specific discussion topics as needed (not just for projects). Proposal conversations occur on Discourse forum. A DAO member must signal their willingness to champion the projects they believe in and be willing to attach their name to a proposal. 3. Anyone can put a proposal on-chain **on the designated pipeline opening date.** The on-chain proposal must include a link to the Discourse forum and name a DAO member who will champion their proposal. 4. A DAO member must champion/sponsor each proposal. **This should not be done by RBG or any RBG member on behalf of the DAO.** RBG might consider reimbursing gas costs for sponsorships. 5. 7 day voting period: RBG will encourage member activity on the Discourse forum and Discord channels. 6. Proposals pass/fail, 7 day grace period: RBG will announce opportunity for members to RQ. During this time RBG can onboard the grantee by extending them the handbook and assigning privleges in Discord. **Is any further onboarding required?** All information should be included in the handbook. 7. Passed proposals are processed (by RBG?). Pipeline is complete. *Anyone (even non-members) can submit a proposal at any time. Total grant pipeline process = 2 weeks of discussion, 1 week vote, 1 week grace.* ### How to read/write the Minimum Viable Handbook? * Use this an opportunity to identify the weaknesses in our system * Do what we can with the time/skills we have, but treat it as a living-document * Some sections might be let blank as place-holders ### How to decentralize the marketing flow? * Need more contributors. What are the incentives? * Need to crowdsource the moloch voice design. Not just Travis. * OR perhaps more autonomy to Zayi to do it her own way ### How to get immediate participation in these processes? * **Weekly Open calls (town halls) held on Discord** * Anyone can show up and get involved however they want * We broadcast the meetings to members and try to get them involved * We can record and distribute these calls * The weeks leading up to the pipeline, we can hangout on Discord immediately following our RBG meetings. * Use these spaces to discuss the minutae of the grant applications * Start at the beginning of November? ### How to conceptualize the aesthetics of the website and marketing materials? * Simple. It's **punk**. * Reference [Amber Baldet on Byzantine Dreams](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/byzantine-dreams/id1525032633?i=1000491383645) * Not *cyber*punk (antiquated web2.0 notion) or *cypher*punk (encryption/collusion focused), but *punk*punk = ["Kill you idols"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8LYpyXerDg) mentality. * What does this mean? TL;DR = we need to stop continuously looking back and begin looking forward to manifest more deliberately, less nostaligically. More critical acuity, more speculative imaginings (solarpunk, hope punk). Actively and cooperatively manifesting a different world and not settling for what is given. * There are important philosophical and aestehtic ramifications to this and it must be discussed, debated, and ultimately determined **by MolochDAO members, not RBG.** This is more than just a run of the mill design audit! Full middle-out rebranding!
