## Background This document outlines a process for gathering and categorizing the technical skills, learning interests, and areas of research interest of all individuals within ARC. The idea for this initiative originated during the initial conversation on the data-driven research theme. Our goal was to enhance our existing technical skills and acquire new ones. To achieve this, we recognized the importance of seeking assistance from experts in various technology domains within ARC. However, we faced a challenge: we lacked a comprehensive overview of the skills present within ARC's talent pool. Relying solely on individual interactions through Slack seemed inadequate and incomplete as a solution. The solution we came up with was to collect this information ourselves. We started with a Miro board and then quickly realised that it might not be the best tool for the task. One example that seems to work on the wider community is the [stackover flow developer survey](https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2023/). The data collection interface seems to be [simple enough](https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2023/#section-feedback-how-easy-or-difficult-was-this-survey-to-complete) while the [balance between the length of survey and depth of data collected seemed to be right](https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2023/#section-feedback-how-do-you-feel-about-the-length-of-the-survey-this-year). Forking the entire solutions might be a good way forward but it requires a heavy development cost. [Typeform](https://www.typeform.com) offers a good looking interface but will require a new agreement on the data handling and sharing. On the other hand [Microsoft forms](https://forms.microsoft.com) does not offer the a visually appealing interface but has the advantage of data management agreement already in place with UCL. ## Which data will be collected? - Technical skills - Learning interests - Areas of interest ## Why will the data be collected? ## How will the data be collected? ## What will the data be used for? ## Where will the data be stored? ## How will the data be updated? ## Who will have access to the data?
