Basic Steps and Tools in Catia V5 Sketcher Workbench

In this tutorial you will be gaining the basic knowledge on how to use the CATIA V5 sketcher workbench.

1. Let us start by creating a new file.

Start -> Mechanical Design -> Part Design

2. 'New Part' window pops up.

Enter the part name and then click OK

3. A new file with file name 'Part1' will be created as shown below.

Sketcher Tool

5. Enter Sketcher workbench

New File -> Select the Plane -> Sketcher Tool


This is the sketcher workbench and you can find the sketcher tools on the right, top and bottom interfaces and start drawing.
6. Change Plane

we can select the 'Exit Workbench' tool and also can double click the planes in the Part Tree to enter the particular plane (i.e., XY, YZ, ZX Planes).
Exit Workbench Tool -> Select Other Plane -> Sketcher Tool
7. Zoom In and Zoom Out

Zoom In and Zoom Out tools
Or
Hold the center roller and a single click on 'right click' of the mouse and by moving the mouse forward we can zoom in and by moving backward we can zoom out.

8. Rotate


Select the Rotate key and hold the left click of the mouse and rotate the plane.
Or
Mouse Roller + Right Click/Ctrl

9. Move
Press and hold the Center Roller of the mouse and move it.

10. Normal View Tool


This is the disturbed view of the drawing area.

Now, to bring it back to the normal view select the "Normal View" tool.

11. Fit in all


This tool hepls to take the drawing to the center of the plane.

12. Grid and Snap

  • Grids disappear, when it is turned off and it appears when it is switched on.
  • When Snap tool is switched on, the motion of the cursor is restricted to the intersections of the lines and cannot be stopped in the middle.

  • When the Snap tool is switched off we can take any dimension of our drawings.

My Appeal

Hello friends, hope you all are holding up well in these extraordinary circumstances we are facing and will face for a foreseeable future. None saw the repercussions of such magnitude coming our way due to Covid-19 pandemic. One way or another, it took a toll on all our lives. Fortunate are those who have a roof over their heads and food on their plates. They might seem insignificant for most of us, as we often tend to blind eye to these blessings of life, due to various reasons. Sailing through troubled waters demands a certain level of mental fortitude and perseverance, sadly most of us don't realise are our innate qualities. However, as challenges for a human being are subjective in nature, we all have our own ways of facing them. My appeal to you all is, look at them as they are, not how you want them to be.

International Vulture Awareness Day

The first Saturday in September each year is International Vulture Awareness Day. Vultures play an important role in an ecosystem by scavenging on animal carcass before it decomposes - helping prevent the spread of harmful bacteria and other pathogens into the ground and water. Habitat Preferences Breeding and roosting - Forests with tall trees and mountains. Feeding - Areas with plenty of wildlife and proximity to carcass disposal areas. Once found across the Indian subcontinent, they are now found only in isolated pockets. Their populations faced a dramatic decline of almost 99% in certain species within a short span, primarily due to human-related activities.
