--- tags: discover --- # Discovery / Deal Room Navigation The founders currently have issues completing their Deal Room. At the moment, the Deal Room is one, long scrollable page which founders navigate and complete various organisms. The problems that have arisen so far are that the Deal Room is “overwhelming”, “messy”, and “confusing”. We are here to find a design solution to these problems, and to assess the pros and cons of each. ## Solution Ideas ### Tab Navigation This is a similar solution to the Investor View of the Deal Room. The Deal Room header contains a few pieces of information such as: Company Name + Logo, Description (“One Liner”), Funding Target, Funding Round Name, Location, Website, Action Buttons, and Deal Room tabs for navigating different features. #### Pros - Easier to navigate, would eliminate “messy” and “overwhelming”. - Founder sees Deal Room preview as an investor would (Name, Logo, Description, etc). - The description in particular might provide some feedback as to how the company wants itself to be presented/seen. This might prompt more thought to go towards Company Profile and the information provided during onboarding (some companies might rush this experience and not fill out the full information). Unless they realise the investor will see these, they might not have reason to revisit and review. #### Cons - Feedback for Deal Room could get “messy” (what would it looks like to have a red notification next to each tab?) - how could this be avoided? - How do we decide which component goes in which tab? - E.g “Legal Documents” in Legals tab? “Financial Documents” in Financials Tab? Funding History into Financials? Or maybe combined with Milestones? ... ### Side Navigation This is a similar solution to what was originally implemented in the Deal Room. Located to the side of the organisms would be a fixed side menu, allowing founders to click and find different components that need editing/review. #### Pros - Easier to navigate a long page of organisms, would create shortcuts to these edits/reviews. - Could be room for red notifications next to elements as they would be stacked on top of one another, as opposed to side by side in the Tabs option (i.e unlikely to run out of space). #### Cons - Everything still on one page, still quite messy/cluttered despite useful shortcuts - Page layout will need reworking, or worst case scenario each organism will require narrowing by ~20%, this would require multiple hours of work on both design and development - Same issue as above in terms of “How do we compartmentalise these subjects?” ... ### Single Page (No Change) It might be worth spending more time in this design, as well as to focus on properly implementing the empty states as they were designed and perhaps even improving them. I believe one of the issues is actually “too much white space”, it’s hard to know what to do when everything is empty! #### Pros - One long scrollable page is fairly easy to navigate for discovery. - Keeps everything on one page, in one place. - Don’t have to worry about “How to compartmentalise”, although this isn’t 100% solved as still need to work out optimal order. #### Cons - One long scrollable page is not fun to navigate if you are trying to find/edit one particular organism. - Creates a messy and overwhelming impression for the founder/user. - Need to focus on optimal order of components. ... ### Wizard God forbid... #### Pros - Not many #### Cons - Quite a few ... ## Questions ## TODO - [ ] Design card sorting exercise to discover the categorisation of deal room components @Ed - [ ] Schedule user testing sessions for Friday @seathemc
