# Raidguild: real deal or simply unemployed?
(and other questions mom wants answered before she’s proud of me again)
Article by Luke KK - Season 4 apprentice

Imagine the mother of an adult son with gainful employment, a good education, and a history of tiger parenting.
Mom: Son, how is work?
Me: I quit, I’m joining a DAO!
Mom: *hides anger* You’re becoming a monk?
Me: No, that’s Dao. I’m doing a DAO! Decentralized autonomous organization.
Mom: *demon voice * Decentralized autonomous? Sounds like nobody in charge, fake company, don’t troll me WTF is a DAO.
🤓 My name is Luke and I’m not a full member. I’m writing from real-time firsthand experience as a recruit, at the behest of the guild.
🧠 The goal here is to help you see what makes Raidguild special, how you can participate, and why my mom should be proud of me again. All technical terms are bolded so you can look them up yourself.
🤝🏿 You’d be surprised how kind and accessible Raidguild is. Join our Discord and say hello!
## Let’s start where we left off. What actually is a DAO? 🤔

A DAO is a group of people who share a common purpose. Generally, DAOs support this purpose with the following:
DAO Governance is a set of agreements and procedures for members to make decisions. Voting power depends on your standing, contribution, and/or financial stake in the DAO.
DAO Treasury is a pool of resources (generally crypto-assets) held in common.
Here are some useful oversimplifications:
Think of a DAO as a hybrid between social club, co-operative, union, collective, and/or business.
For the first time in history, Web 3.0 enables DAO governance and treasury through smart contracts instead of traditional ways to organize society (e.g. corporations and legal contracts).

## So, what makes Raidguild worthwhile and how does it make money? 🤑
Service DAOs exist to attract and deploy specific expertise. Raidguild is a service DAO. Think of it as an agency and consultancy for software, design, and marketing.
Clients submit our hiring form, stating the mission and reward. The same way you hire a wandering sellsword to slay a dragon in the village, you hire Raidguild to take on a Web 3.0 project.
We make money this way and help each other grow. We govern ourselves and hold a treasury in common. Raidguild happens to have its own token: RAID.
In the fourth (current) cohort alone, here are the recruits and our marketable skills:

## Sounds great to me but mom’s still mad. How does this change both life and career? 🙊

The beauty of Raidguild is that it’s not your boss — it’s your team. It is a collective of friends who believe in the **Future of Work**.
We assist one another in tough times, help each other to upskill, make strategic introductions, and share exclusive intelligence. Some of our most influential members have demanding jobs and families to take care of. That being said, the more you put in, the more you get out of the experience.
Personally, these are the reasons why I choose to participate in Raidguild:
* Curiosity
* Opportunity
* Pride
* Service
* Belonging
Financially speaking, most members in most jurisdictions can consider themselves self-employed for tax purposes. This might look like a sole proprietorship, s-corporation, single member limited liability company, or something else. When transacting in crypto-assets, capital gains must be considered but this kind of tax tends to be lower than income tax.
If you want to YOLO, Raidguild may be your sole professional interest. But it is definitely a bad idea to YOLO so please don’t quit your job.
## Demon mom returns to human form. She can once again show off to her friends, which is what really matters. 😉

I wouldn’t want her to join since that’d be sort of creepy and weird at this point, but if you feel so inclined, fill out the [application form](https://www.raidguild.org/join) and come say hi in the Tavern on [Raid Guild's Discord server](https://discord.gg/rGFpfQf)!
We are currently between recruitment seasons but keep posted and we'll see you on the battlefield! :wave:
