# Monster Maps' Worldbuilding (for Guilders) This document is the Gods' Mode for Monster Maps, where we list down the important tasks ahead of us to build the world of Monster Maps. So far, there seems to be 4 main tasks that have emerged by minters | Column 1 | Column 2 | | | Column 3 | | -------- | --------------------------------- | --- | --- | -------- | | 0 | Build out the world a little more | | | Text | ## Task 0. Build out the world a little more | | World Element | Prompts | | --- | ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | 1 | Place | Text | | 2 | Conflict | | | 3 | Rule & Laws | The inhabitants who live in this world you’ve created will have their own independent existence. What is their governing system? Who is in charge? Do they use magic in this world? If so, who can use it, and how powerful is it? Setting up boundaries helps create a more realistic world that functions like a real one. | | 4 | Culture | What do the inhabitants of this universe believe in? Is there religion? Is there a God? Do they have any sacred customs? What do they celebrate? Breathe life into the characters who populate this location by giving them a meaningful existence. | | 5 | History | What is the history of this place you’ve created? Have there been any world wars? Do the countries within your world have enemies? Are there rival races? Is there a sole antagonist? Providing the backstory for your world can give it an added dimension and make it feel more tangible. | :::info _DAO IDEA_ each Monster Map could be dao, different monsters on a map have shares in the dao and can build the mission of the region ::: # Task 1. Give the adventurers a quest: To 'slay' or to 'tame' The common idea here is to give adventurers a quest, a purpose, a mission. This can introduce new dynamics towards the collection of Monsters and Maps by adventurers. ## 1.1 Decision: To 'slay' or to 'tame' Since we have Monsters & Monster Maps, there are 2 forks in the road ahead - to 'slay' or to 'tame'. **A. Adventurers as Monster Slayers / Bounty Hunters** After the `said event` or to achieve `said world purpose`, the adventurers of the land are exploring new lands and slaying Monsters for bounty. Hanging out at taverns and looking for bounties, adventurers venture to the fringes of the land to slay Monsters. Returning in victory, they bring back the spoils of battles and the map to redeem gold and glory. **B. Adventurers as Monster Tamers / Beast Masters** After the `said event` or to achieve `said world purpose`, the adventurers of the land are putting together a World Map. By exploring new lands, adventurers encounter Monsters, tame them and curate a small part of this World Map. With every Map assembled and Monster tamed, the World Map starts to form as we get one step closer towards `said world purpose` Sample copy / ideas from Discord > Monsters have overtaken the region of (map #). Are you up for the challenge? I hear there's a bounty on this RAID... > Hark! The Monster Hunters Guild has been seeking new candidates. We hear that there is a rampaging (Monster name). I'd pay well if you were to resolve this... - Could this check by monster name? is this stored in the Metadata? Have a bounty for a specific monster of the day? ie Moloch or Baal? > what if there was some way for people to decide if they kill or tame? We should decide whether adventurers aim to kill, tame (or both - but might be more complicated). This would decide the game dynamics, quests, storyline, etc. and would be an important thing to decide. If we were to prioritise simplicity and clarity of a storyline, we should go with 1 first before adding on features later on. :::info _DAO IDEA_ guilds of bounty hunters or monster Tammers. build up dao NFT galleries of monsters ::: :::warning TODO: Decide on 'slay' or 'tame' meta Decision factors: simplicity; adherence to storyline; storyline potential ::: {see Tavern Keeper Quest ideas below} ## 1.1. Mechanics: How do they 'slay' or 'tame' Monsters? Here, we decide the actual mechanics / gameplay of the users, i.e. what do I actually do to play the game? **A. Bundle Monsters & Maps on Opensea** This comes from one of the Discord users bundling up an assembled map of monsters B. Send Monsters to a Map (which are locked up forever) C. `When UI is available` add Monsters to a Trophy Room, etc. D. Overlap Maps & Monster Maps There are many possible actions, but the priority should be creating something that is simple enough for users to get started. As the world grows, we can start building on top of it and introduce new features. :::warning TODO: Decide on game mechanics Decision factors: simplicity; adherence to storyline; storyline potential ::: ## 1.2. Bounty: When they 'slay' or 'tame', what do they get? Lastly, this is where we make the Adventurers' quests meaningful, i.e. why do I go on quests? Financial | Motivation | Reward | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Financial | Airdrop with $RAID | | Social prestige | Tiered classes on Discord based on `# monsters` `# quests` | | Bragging rights | Display on site as a Trophy room, or let people decide how to 'flavor' the gallery as either a Trophy room or a Menagerie | > Executionally: We could probably write a script that looped through and got all those. Maybe we need a subgraph 3. Has there been any other stuff built off of that open 5e API. That's where we got the data from we might be able to pull a bunch of monster images off of some other open project --- ## 1.4 Story Ideas for Quest Progression - `event`: Moloch's influence spreading through the region - `world purpose`: restore prosperity through coordination and collaboration - `catalyst`: Adventurer's either charting the territory and unlocking a full map, or slaying Monsters and reducing Moloch's influence **Narrative ideas:** This was once a beautiful land where folks collaborated and coordinated to bring great wealth and shared prosperity. However, all has not been well... One cold evening, the local inhabitants felt a disrupting presence. Collaboration started giving way to self-interest. Where folks once coordinated efforts to boost propersity for the common good, they now kept distant and no longer communicated. A raid party formed and set out to find the root cause of this disruption. They found that Moloch has returned from a period of slumber and that Moloch's influence has grown in the region. As this presence expands there has been an outbreak of monsters. Guilds of adventurers banded together to investigate the changes, and brave *cartographers* started marking the presence of unusual creatures. A Monster Hunter Guild formed to rally the people around a common cause. ### Choose Your Pathway: Monster Hunter or Cartographer Is this a way to frame the minting a monster or map? Could this be a starting point to a Choose Your Own Adventure flavor? ### Tavern Keeper Quests [Site] **Mechanics** This could be a part of the UI where bounties are displayed. These don't need to be daily -- could be based on completion. For example, when an entire map is completed and all monsters on it have been collected, the player redeems the map and advances their quest line. **Flavor** Adventurers find their way to the Monster Guild Tavern seeking fame and coin. What they find is a world full of mythical beasts, and a collection of tattered maps. A seasoned wanderer walks up and shares a mysterious tip: "The glory you seek can be found in these maps. However, danger awaits. These regions have been overtaken by beasts! Each day the threats grow. Can you help us?" She then points to a wooden bounty board. Intrigued and ready for a quest, you look toward the board. There is a map with some rough dots marked throughout. There is also a single monster name. #### Option 1: Look at the map - Looking at the map reveals the location of several Monsters that have overtaken a region. Are you able to vanquishing these Monsters? - Ideas: - Compounding RAID rewards based on vanquishing the Monsters in the map. If you vanquish *all* monsters on the map, you receive the most reward! - 1 Monster: 100 RAID - 2 Monsters: 150 RAID - 5 Monsters: 1000 RAID - Something like this? #### Option 2: Look at the Monster - Looking at the Monster reveals a specific monster bounty such as vanquishing a "Moloch..." Someone has put a bounty on this Monster! Are you able to vanquish it? # Task 2. Improve Discord onboarding & fact-finding experience # Task 3. Improve player matching experience We see traders looking to complete their collection by asking for owners with #XXXX to hit them up. However, it is likely that owners will not actively look at these threads and even remember the items they own. Perhaps an extension of our Collab.land bot could be (not sure if feasible): WHEN there is mention of a monster or map ID AND the monster/map ID is owned by a user in Discord AND the user has authenticated with the bot THEN the bot sends the owner a message / alert # Task 4. Let players display their spoils of battle (Monster Menagerie / Trophy Room) [Site] Depending on the Adventurer's decision (this could be something they decide and sign on the site?) the *gallery* is either a Menagerie (tame) or a Trophy Room (kill). You enter a vast room and gaze upon your accomplishments in these lands. - Check the `balanceOf` for the Monsters, map and display. If user has chosen the *kill path* it's themed as a Trophy Room. If user has chosen the *tame path* it's themed as a Menagerie. - Is this a permenent decision or can they toggle this? Just flavor on the site? **Theme connection: Slay or Tame** # battle contract. we snapshot some data from mainnet and run on xdai a monster lead stakes a flag on some town. different location tribes start staking on that town to solidify maybe some small fee that goes into a pot when staking. eventually the battle breaks out, what ever tribe has the larger army wins We could do this as a social thing in discord first. just for the lolz ## Tweet Thoughts #### themes - monsters as a primitive - building with a community, from the ground up - no VC larping
