# QuickBooks Update Stops at Writing System Registry Values – Solutions


## Solution 1: Create a Microsoft Defender exclusion

The QuickBooks Tool Hub includes a feature that automatically adds QuickBooks files to the Microsoft Defender exclusion list. This prevents the antivirus from scanning these specific files during installation.

**Prerequisites:**

- You must be signed into Windows as an administrator.
- You must have the QuickBooks Tool Hub installed.

**Steps:**

- Select Cancel to stop the current update.
- Close QuickBooks.
- Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub application. If you don't have the tool, download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
- Select Installation issues.
- Select Add Defender Exclusion. If this option is grayed out, you don't have administrator rights on the PC. Ask your admin to perform this step.
- Restart your computer.
- Reopen QuickBooks and start the update again.
