### Workshop part 1: What is a blockchain? - literally how it works - a simple blockchain history - what is mining, what is consensus, what are transactions - how do I interact with a blockchain (wallets, blockexplorers) ##### discussion topics: - what can a blockchain do, when it might be misapplied - proof of work and energy ##### possible homework/hands on component - download a popular wallet and I will send you some crypto ### Workshop part 2: What is a token? - an introduction to smart contracts - fungible vs non-fungible assets - how to mint an NFT on your own terms ##### discussion topics: - what is money and how do things become valuable? - what kinds of tokens and economic mechanisms can serve artist communitites? ##### possible homework/hands on component - we all mint NFTS on xdai (I set up contracts that make this very easy) ### Ideas for a possible part 3: - intro to the p2p ecosystem more broadly (ipfs, dat, ssb, bittorrent) - intro to daos ### Target audience: Artists, who make art using technology. Who have seen code, understand generally how code works, but may or may not think of themselves fully as programmers. Generally tech-minded, knowing very little "real" information blockchain, and interested in seeing the guts. ### About me: Software engineer and artist working as a blockchain specialist since 2016. I commit to nothing in this workshop using Proof of Work.
