# Plans are still underway to expand the Treasure Island resort

Treasure Island Resort & Casino continues its expansion plans and aims to complete them in January.

The $34 million project will add nearly 200,000 square feet to the current facility and improve existing space. The construction will focus on the casino's game floor and main entrance, as well as administrative offices and warehouses. The casino will operate throughout the construction.

The expansion will not only increase the space around existing games, but will also provide space for 800 new slot machines and eight blackjack tables. The current casino floor is 62,000 square feet. About 100 new jobs will be added.

"We need to expand to meet the growing demands of our customers," said Dr. Neil Cornelius, general manager of Treasure Island Resorts & Casino. "We're so excited that our customers enjoy coming here just as much. We want to accommodate our guests and provide them with the best entertainment experience possible.

"We regret the inconvenience our guests may experience as a result of this project, however insignificant it may be," Cornelius said. "But we are confident that by next year, our guests will really enjoy the results."

Presently, Treasure Island Resort & Casino offers guests some of the best gaming, accommodation, food service, and nationally known entertainment in the casino industry with its 375,000 square feet facility. Treasure Island features more than 1,600 slots and 50 blackjack tables in five Caribbean-themed casinos; 550-seat Irish Bingo Hall and the stakes are high for the largest non-smoking game room in the state.
