![EIP Editors' Report](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SyuVDT-Rye.png) # EIP Reviewers: Survey & Contribution Report The Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) process helps Ethereum grow by allowing new ideas and improvements to be discussed and implemented. Editors and Reviewers play an important role by carefully checking these proposals to make sure they are clear, correct, and practical. In recent months, more people have shown interest in becoming [EIP Reviewers](https://hackmd.io/@poojaranjan/EIPReviewer). These contributors include Ethereum core developers, open-source maintainers, and technical writers who want to improve Ethereum’s proposal process. This report gives an overview of recent [interest](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IpyAonFEYJuSHke9t4BKzKfjDAjynOhPHxpU1G5FsnQ/preview) from developers and community contributors who want to review EIPs and support present standardization process after the first [EIP Editors' Workshop ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCTx-K-aArM). ## What Do EIP Reviewers Do? EIP Reviewers are responsible for providing both technical and editorial feedback on proposals. Their duties include: * Reviewing new submissions for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to guidelines. * Ensuring technical feasibility and clarity of proposals. * Providing actionable feedback to authors. * Collaborating with other reviewers, EIP Editors, authors, and community members to address concerns. * Validating technical implementations, where applicable. * Engaging with the community through discussions and educational activities. To be effective, reviewers should have technical expertise in Ethereum applications or protocols, experience with the EIP process, strong communication skills, and a commitment of 5-20 hours per month. ## How We Measure Reviewer Performance (KPIs) To understand how well EIP Reviewers are doing, we hope to look at these key performance indicators (KPIs): 1. **Number of proposals reviewed** – How many EIPs a reviewer has checked in a given period. 2. **Time taken to review proposals** – How quickly reviewers give feedback to keep the process moving. 3. **Quality of reviews** – Whether the feedback is helpful and improves the proposal (based on author and peer feedback). 4. **Helping resolve issues** – How actively a reviewer helps fix problems or misunderstandings in proposals. 5. **Participation in discussions** – How much a reviewer engages with the community beyond reviewing EIPs. While we may have to depend on commmunity's feedback on some of the evaluation points, we do have [tools to measure the number of proposals reviewed every month](https://eipsinsight.com/Reviewers#Monthly). Here’s a summary of recent contributions by EIP Reviewers: ![Screenshot 2025-03-04 at 9.31.06 AM](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/Sk-TCFEoyx.png) | Name | Number of Reviews | Key Contributions | |------|------------------|------------------| | **Jochem Brouwer** | 20+ | Frequent reviewer of Core EIPs, contributed to EIP-7702, EIP-2935, EIP-2537 | | **Marchhill** | 10+ | Review of Execution Layer specifications, updates to EIP-7642, EIP-7788 | | **Advaita Saha** | 5+ | Contributions to Verkle Trees and EIP-4444-related proposals | | **Bomanaps** | 10+ | Focus on ERC proposals and Layer2 scaling improvements | | **Daniel Lehrner** | 5+ | Contributions to ERC standards, author of ERC-1996, ERC-2020 | | **Skanda Bhat** | New Contributor | Review focus on Execution Layer clients | | **Nalepae** | New Contributor | Contributions to Ethereum consensus layer and EIP-1 updates | ## EIP Reviewing Activity by the Numbers To gauge the level of participation and impact, here are some key metrics: - **Total EIP Reviews Conducted:** 50+ reviews in the last three months - **PRs Merged After Review:** 30+ EIPs successfully integrated - **Open PRs Under Discussion:** 15+ actively being refined - **Top Reviewed Categories:** Core EIPs, Execution Layer proposals, ERCs ## Highlighted Contributions | PR Number | Title | Reviewer | Review Date | Status | Link | |-----------|----------------------------------|------------|-------------|------------|------------------------------------------------| | 9151 | Update EIP-1: Add changes on top of Sam's changes. | Nalepae | 12/23/2024 | Open | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9151) | | 9193 | Add EIP: Deactivate/Reactivate a Delegated EOA's Key | Jochem Brouwer | 12/28/2024 | Merged | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9193) | | 9270 | Add EIP: Hardware and Bandwidth Recommendations for Validators and Full Nodes | Advaita Saha | 1/28/2025 | Open | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9270) | | 9227 | Update EIP-7623: Clarify the gas refunds handling | Jochem Brouwer | 1/9/2025 | Merged | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9227) | | 9278 | Update EIP-7788: fix spelling eip-7788.md | Marchhill | 1/28/2025 | Merged | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9278) | | 9374 | Add EIP: Precompile for NTT operations | Bomanaps | 2/18/2025 | Open | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9374) | | 9378 | Update EIP-7594: include cell proofs in network wrapper of blob txs | Daniel Lehrner | 2/19/2025 | Open | [Link](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/pull/9378) | ## The Impact of EIP Reviewers EIP Reviewers help make sure Ethereum’s proposals are well-written, make sense, and fit with the ecosystem’s goals. Their feedback helps avoid mistakes, improve explanations, and ensure proposals are useful for developers. More participation in reviewing means we can address Open PRs sooner rather than later and be able to decrease the number of PRs accross different repos. ## What’s Next? As Ethereum evolves, having more people review EIPs will be important to maintain quality. If you want to help, you can start by joining discussions, reviewing proposals, and collaborating with authors to refine ideas. You can get involved by checking out the Ethereum EIPs repository and contributing your insights. The rise in participation shows that Ethereum has a strong and active community. With dedicated reviewers, the network will continue to improve and lead the way in blockchain technology. **Join the Conversation**: If you’d like to help review EIPs, visit the Ethereum [EIPs](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs) repository and start participating! ### Related Resources * [EIP-1: EIP Purpose and Guidelines](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-1) * [RIP-7810: RIP Purpose and Guidelines](https://github.com/ethereum/RIPs/blob/master/RIPS/rip-7810.md) * [EIP-5069: EIP Editor Handbook](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-5069) * [Sam's Rules for EIPs](https://hackmd.io/@SamWilsn/B11QmJoq6) * [EIP Editors' Onboarding](https://hackmd.io/@poojaranjan/EIPEditorOnboarding) * [EIP editor "apprentice" handbook](https://hackmd.io/@poojaranjan/EIP-ERC-Editor-handbook#Exceptional-cases) * [EIP Reviewers: Permissions, requirements, roles & responsibilities](https://hackmd.io/@poojaranjan/EIPReviewer) * [Workshop Presentation](https://www.canva.com/design/DAGa2omAWlw/4nO1_cjbaRLTY3DPmIGSWg/edit)
