--- description: program structure proposal tags: pnm20 --- # Pista ng Mapa 2020 program structure ## Theme There will be no specific topical theme for the conference but we encourage presenters to use Philippine context, data, or examples as much as possible. ## Language * Not decided yet > From meetings, English is preferred but left to the presenter ## General outline * 3 to 4 half-days spread over successive Fridays * Not yet decided how long is a half-day: 4 hours? 6 hours? * Presentations will be prerecorded ## Session types 1. 25-minute presentation 2. 25-minute workshop 3. 50-minute workshop 4. 5-minute lightning talk * Those who run workshops can propose to have a series of workshops spread over consecutive weeks. So a 3-hour workshop can be broken down into three 1-hour workshops. * For workshops aside from the prerecorded video, presenters are highly encouraged to provide their presentation and/or material in advance (such as a GitHub/GitLab repository containing materials and data). * The idea is that the conference is like a cooking show but we also provide the cookbook in advance. ## Other conferences for inspiration ### How to do Map Stuff * "A series of live online mapping workshops" * Organized by the [Something About Maps website](https://somethingaboutmaps.wordpress.com/) * Format is 2 tracks consisting of 30-minute or 1-hour workshops, not prerecorded but sessions are recorded for later viewing * [Program](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQYEF0OVrMNF47enGSAAeZvDCnC7JdlCY4Bu5aCSPGfHyOI6pROi12svuM64QUG3xkeQN4IsT027jHv/pubhtml) * [YouTube playlist of sessions](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF-xwVTEFobPaLdmE41iPMX8rQVW8TF1e) * Presenters from the Philippines: * David Garcia: "How to Map an Island in the Pacific" * Hannah Dormido: "Mapping for beginners: A simple way to create a locator map" ### State of the Map 2020 * [Website](https://2020.stateofthemap.org) ### QGIS North America 2020 * [Website](http://qgis.us/qgis-na-2020.html) * Conference held on 3 consecutive Fridays in July (17, 24, 31) * Each workshop has registration: "In order to provide a quality experience, we limited the number of active participants in the workshops, but we will also livestream and record the workshop presentations on YouTube." ### SciPy 2020 * [Website](https://www.scipy2020.scipy.org/)
