--- ###### tags: `PlorQuest` --- # Character Alignments In D&D 5e, character alignments are a way to describe a character's moral and ethical outlook. Alignments provide a general guideline for how a character typically behaves and makes decisions. There are nine different alignments in D&D 5e, which are based on two axes: the ethical axis (Lawful, Neutral, Chaotic) and the moral axis (Good, Neutral, Evil). Here are the different types of character alignments: ## Lawful Good (LG) Characters of this alignment combine a strong sense of justice, honor, and adherence to a code or law with a desire to do good. They prioritize upholding the law and helping others. ## Neutral Good (NG) Characters of this alignment value doing good and helping others, but they are not bound by strict laws or personal codes. They prioritize individual freedom while still seeking to do what is right. ## Chaotic Good (CG) Characters of this alignment value personal freedom and individuality above all else. They have a strong desire to do good but reject the constraints of laws and authority figures. ## Lawful Neutral (LN) Characters of this alignment believe in upholding order, tradition, and the rule of law. They follow a code or set of rules but are not inherently concerned with good or evil. They prioritize maintaining order and stability. ## True Neutral (TN) Characters of this alignment are neutral on both the ethical and moral axes. They are often motivated by self-interest and are typically unconcerned with moral judgments or strict adherence to laws. ## Chaotic Neutral (CN) Characters of this alignment value personal freedom and individuality above all else. They prioritize their own desires and are not constrained by moral or legal codes. ## Lawful Evil (LE) Characters of this alignment are willing to use the power of the law and authority to further their own interests. They believe in order and control but are motivated by self-interest and are not bound by notions of good. ## Neutral Evil (NE) Characters of this alignment are primarily concerned with their own interests and are willing to harm others to achieve their goals. They lack a strong commitment to laws or moral codes. ## Chaotic Evil (CE) Characters of this alignment are driven by personal desire, violence, and chaos. They have little regard for laws or the well-being of others and often revel in causing harm and destruction. --- It's important to note that these alignments are not strict rules that dictate every action of a character. They provide a general framework, and characters can have complex and nuanced personalities that may not fit neatly into a single alignment category. Alignment is a tool to help players understand their character's values and motivations and can be a source of role-playing inspiration.
