# EthCC Voices - Pedro Gomes (WalletConnect) ## Intro My name is Pedro Gomes and I work on WalletConnect, an open protocol that connects wallets to dapps. Our focus has been from the start on building the best mobile wallet experience for users to manage their private keys more easily from the comfort of their favorite mobile wallet. The project is almost 3 years old now and we count with 55 wallets supporting the protocol and over 100 dapps available. We are very close to release and announce the version 2.0 of the protocol which will introduce the much awaited multi-chain support. ## How has being a part of EthCC impacted you thus far? EthCC 1 (2018) was actually my first Ethereum conference that I attended so it has always been my favorite for that reason but not only since I’ve attended hundreds of other conferences and EthCC has really been the best conference at maintaining its culture while scaling over the years. EthCC really represents the best of the Ethereum community and you build connections that live out for years ## What did you achieve in previous years at EthCC? Excluding all the amazing connections and friendships I have made through EthCC I have to say that I’ve been fortunate to have returned to EthCC 2 (2019) to present WalletConnect v1.0 for the first time to the community which at the time was still very early and only supported by 1-2 wallets and only one dapp. That presentation that I gave has put WalletConnect on the spotlight and brought it to the attention of many in the community as serious project that has grown exponentially ever since. ## 2020 was a crazy year, what was an industry highlight for you? Personally 2020 has been very eye opening has it really grounded most of us into what really focus as an industry. I’ve been able to create a better roadmap for WalletConnect and observe DeFi mature to a level that many people outside of our community have come to acknowledge as valid future for finance. That being said I have also seen many reinforcing the importance of remote work and digital technologies in the light of the global pandemic which is very encouraging for anyone working in blockchain that has received ten times more support than ever. Which blockchain trends do you think will be big in 2021? Multi-chain interoperability is really going to take over this year in my opinion. I’m really excited to see many of our community members to value it more and pay attention to standardization that has been worked for years. WalletConnect and many others have been collaborating on CAIPs (Chain Agnostic Improvement Proposals) that help build bridges between Ethereum community and other blockchain communities like Cosmos and Polkadot. 2021 will be the year where multi-chain really becomes feasible ## Anything else you want to add? Personal projects etc. As I mentioned above I’m really focused in bringing together a whole new level of interoperability between different chain ecosystems through the release of the new Walletconnect 2.0 protocol and the adoption of CAIP standards which have matured substantially over the last two years and are slowly being adopted by our community and others.
