## Early stage research 前期研究
In addition to direct exchanges with residents of Wanzaizhen, we read books on local cultural preservation. We selected books on the impact of capital on urban development, feminism and street life, and creative expression, sharing insights and discussing them in relation to the event theme.
除了與塭仔圳居民的直接交流,我們閱讀在地文化保存相關書籍,並選讀與資本影響地理都市發展的書籍、女性主義與街道生活、創意創作等書,互相分享心得並針對活動主題進行討論。

## Workshop Design 活動設計
After reviewing preliminary materials, we established the foundational framework for the project. To ensure clear and straightforward workshop questions, we designed them in a nine-grid format. Prior to the workshop, we engaged in thorough mutual questioning and discussion, employing more conversational explanations and examples to guarantee a smooth process.
經過閱讀前期資料,我們確定了作品的基礎架構。為了讓工作坊的問題設計清楚簡單,我們將問題以九宮格形式設計,並在工作坊前進行充分相互提問與討論,並以更口語化的說明與舉例,以確保流程能順利進行。

## Introduction&Discussion 介紹&討論
The Composition of Home
Throughout the activity, we will take turns sharing memories and feelings about home, sketching the contours of living spaces from a resident's perspective. Each participant will create a small A5 woodcut print during the discussion.
Note: These prints will be combined through the creative process of the Engraving Department. The final works will be exhibited at the New Taipei City Museum of Art from April 25th through September.
Goals:
1. Explore the essence of home to envision how individuals shape streets and cities.
2. Learn and practice woodcut printmaking techniques.
3. Enable participants to express their personal interpretations of home through prints and engage in mutual exchange.
The meaning of home extends beyond merely having a space to eat and sleep anywhere. We care about what this place was and is now, who lives here, the culture of its people, the landscapes, streets, or shops we cherish, even its ecology... You develop an identity and emotional connection to a place. Otherwise, why would we, who aren't history majors, want to know the historical stories of where we live?

Once that connection and affection take root, we also want to know this place's future. We want to keep living here—but not just because we “need to” for practical reasons, right? It's because I've formed a bond with this place. This is my “home.”
So today, what we want to discuss with everyone isn't just “what makes up a home,” but rather “the extension of home.”
We want to know: for you, what people/events/things do you encounter on your journey from leaving home to returning that make you “feel at home”?

After hearing everyone explain the meaning, we can share that living conditions represent each resident's expression of satisfaction with their environment and need for security. We can then discuss why these aspects are important to people's lives and to the city, and continue the conversation.

After sharing, explain that we all recognize our homes, streets, and cities are interconnected. Our “bottom-up” perspectives are vital and carry genuine warmth.
The feedback we offer to urban planners isn't merely about fulfilling personal needs—it's about envisioning an organic city built on mutually healthy relationships.
As we distribute blank sketch sheets, emphasize that everyone's creations can inspire broader public reflection on what home means and why we discuss urban planning.

## Afterword 後記
Swato:
This printmaking workshop with residents of Wenzaizun has been brewing for a long time. Seeds of anticipation sown since our initial engagement with the community in 2022. It wasn't until 2025 that we gathered at the Yi Ai Temple in Meihua New Village—a site holding significant historical meaning for immigrants in Xinzhuang (Note: Beixun Sheng'an Temple has since relocated to Sanxia). Participants included not only residents from Meihua and Fu Jen University's Triangle Mall, but also relatives of residents from Zhuanya Village come from Hualien specifically for the event, along with other participants attendees. This diversity enriched the workshop's discussions.
Through this workshop, participants explored how the publicity of living spaces impacts individuals, communities, and entire regions. By exchanging perspectives and sharing experiences, they gained insights into diverse urban needs and discovered new possibilities for addressing different expectations through others' viewpoints.
During the sharing process, ideas presented in the space resonated deeply with one another. Though the event ran from daytime into evening, all participants felt thoroughly satisfied. Whether expressing thoughts, exchanging ideas, or creating prints, everyone gained both mental and physical fulfillment. The Printing Department is grateful to have facilitated the smooth execution of this event. We extend our gratitude to our partners for their steadfast commitment to the issues and ideals, and we are deeply moved and thankful for the participants' wholehearted dedication and assistance. Our ultimate goal in connecting is not merely to lament our circumstances, but to become a source of strength for one another, supporting each other's ideals to amplify everyone's voice!
這次跟塭仔圳居民的版畫工作坊醞釀已久,不僅單純是籌備的時間與討論,更是從2022年與塭仔圳居民初接觸時就種下期待的種子,直至2025年才在美華新村具有新莊移民歷史意義的義愛公廟(北巡聖安宮現已遷三峽)前發芽,來舉辦議題討論與版畫創作,本次不僅美華居民、輔大三角商城居民來參與,更有磚雅厝居民的親友特地北上,以及報名參與一同參與的民眾,為這次工作坊添加更多樣性的討論。
藉由這次工作坊,去討論居住的公共性如何去影響個人、社區,甚至整體區域,以交流討論的方式,獲得來自各方經驗分享與對都市的需求,從他人的觀點看到不同訴求的可能性。
在分享的過程裡,在場所發表的想法都在互相彼此觸動,雖然整個活動從白天進行到傍晚,但所有參與者都感到酣暢淋漓,不管是抒發想法及交流議題、版畫製作都獲得精神與身體滿足體驗,印刻部在此次能夠促成活動順利進行,感謝夥伴們對於議題及理念的堅持,也感動感謝參與者身心的投入與協助,我們連結的最終目標不是只訴境遇的愁苦,而是互相成為力量,互助支持理念來傳遞每個人的聲音!

The theme of the resident workshop revolves around discussions of value—from home to street to city—and each individual's bottom-up planning imagination. It reveals how the trajectory of life across different scales interconnect, forming an extended emotional identification with “home.” Although the workshop participants and residents we invited may already have strong opinions or even professional insights on urban planning, the shared discussion and collaborative creation hold experiential significance as an artistic collective action. This allows us to perceive the differences of “doing together” in a gentle way.
The workshop coincided with the anniversary of the February 28 Incident, reminding us that we are not far removed from a society without freedom of speech. In our present era of free speech, we must not only voice diverse perspectives but also stand united in our expression. Thus, it is vital for people from different places to articulate their views and visions for their respective communities—and never cease striving to be heard, nor to discuss how best to be heard.
Until last year, residents of Meihua New Village and other Wenzaizun communities were still meeting with the Land Administration Bureau to understand and discuss the impacts of community road renovations under urban renewal. Even though the fight to preserve their homes has long ended, they continue to struggle for the right to engage in dialogue and communication with the city.
“Iron Lady,” a skilled factory worker who relocated from Wenzaizun, remains actively involved in supporting and participating in local discussions about the area. Only when we strive to ensure these voices are truly heard can an organic, bottom-up urban city become a reality.
居民工作坊的主題是從家、街道、再到都市的價值討論與每個人「由下而上」的規劃想像,能夠看到不同範圍的生活軌跡相互關聯,構築成對「家」的延伸情感認同。雖然我們邀請的工作坊參與者們與居民們或許已經對城市規劃很有想法、甚至專業看法,但是共同討論、共同創作有其作為藝術集體行動的體驗意義,讓我們以軟性的方式感受「一起做」的不同之處。
工作坊當日剛好是二二八事件紀念日,我們與沒有言論自由的社會其實時隔不遠。在我們可以自主發聲的現在,我們除了需要說出不同聲音、也需要站在一起發聲。因此不同地方的人們說出對各自地區的觀點與想像是重要的,並且不要放棄被聽見、討論該如何被聽見。
直到去年,美華新村與其他塭仔圳的居民們依然在與地政局開會,了解與討論都市更新的社區道路改建會有什麼影響。即使保留房屋的抗爭早已結束,他們依然還在為能夠與城市對話與溝通奮鬥。
搬離塭仔圳的工廠黑手職人「鐵娘子」也持續支持、參與著塭仔圳的在地討論活動。當我們嘗試讓這些聲音真正被聽到的時候,一個「由下而上」的有機都市城市才有可能被實踐。
Yuling
After years of experience in urban eviction movements and my background in art, returning to the community and collaborating with group partners to bring people together through artistic creation for discussions about living spaces is deeply meaningful to me.
The right to housing is a fundamental human right. While the urban landscape itself records and bears witness to the trajectory of political and economic development, the people living within it remain the most crucial element.
During the workshop, it was deeply moving to see participants from diverse backgrounds sincerely and wholeheartedly share and understand one another through art as a communication tool, drawing from their personal experiences. This demonstrated that people are not without thoughts about their lives and living environments. Residents' solidarity consistently outpaces that of governments and professionals. I am deeply grateful for the residents of Wenzaizun showed me a rare group that remains united and passionate about their living space amidst urban transformation.
參與多年都市迫遷運動的經驗與過去在藝術領域的訓練,重新回到社區並與團體夥伴,透過藝術創作將人們聚在一起參與對空間的討論,對我來說很珍貴。
居住權是人們生活的基本人權,都市地景本身紀錄與見證著經濟發展的軌跡,然而最重要的仍然是生活在其上的人。
在工作坊的過程中,看到不同身份的參與者都能以自身經驗,透過藝術作為溝通的工具,真誠且投入相互分享交流與理解是令人感動的,也證明了人們對於自己的生活與居住環境並非沒有想法,當居民團結,始終能走在政府與專業者之前。我感謝有這樣的機會看見塭仔圳的居民,在都市空間變遷的過程中,少數能夠持續團結並對自己生活空間的活動有愛的群體。
