## PHL public schools

- de facto **community centers**, and settlement landmark
- serve as **polling precincts** during elections
- provide **temporary shelters**, during emergencies

Note:
Motivation - why?

Effort will also reduce number of un-mapped settlements in OSM, by adding the basic features found in neighborhoods, villages (barangays) and remote hamlets (sitios).

Using **RapiD**, ML road detections are validated, too.

## :dart: Goal

Improve school geodata on OpenStreetMap, using DepEd CY [2013](http://data.gov.ph/catalogue/dataset/201-enrolment-data---elementary-and-secondary) (archived [here](https://github.com/OSMPH/deped_schools_db), cleaned-up [here]()) with [explicit permission](https://github.com/OSMPH/deped_schools_db/blob/master/data/DepEd_Letter_to_OSM_20132012.pdf) to integrate under ODbL.

:clock1030: A beginner, after ~30 minutes of on-boarding, may take **~8** minutes to map the recommended minimum features. (Experienced mappers: ~4 minutes)

:calendar: With 33,942 schools to validate, the effort is expected to take 566 working days to complete.

Note:
Calculating using the past average rate (~1,800 schools added per year), it would take the community 15 years to validate the remaning 24,560

At 5,000 schools per year, 5 years.

* multiple schools sharing the same geographic coordinates
* inaccurate location (up to several kilometers away)
* improbable location (middle of nowhere)
* Typograhpical errors
* Incomplete data set (new schools after 2013, senior high schools, private schools)
