  • The OSM-PH communities maintain several local community channels on the Internet, offering peer-to-peer support for fellow volunteers. The un-official Telegram channel t.me/osmph is considered our most interactive, where active exchanges/discussions on various topics of interest to the OSM-PH community happen. Its nature as a public channel also means it is beset by the platform's problem of spam accounts and spam bots. Thus, the proposal to move discussions to a private channel with less restrictions for vetted users, and maintain t.me/osmph as a "lobby" for scrutinizing the intent of channel joiners. "OpenStreetMap@Pilipinas" is the new, private channel for vetted users who are admitted through the lobby, t.me/osmph. [toc]

  • ==**THIS IS A DRAFT. New content will be moved to the OSM-PH repo, because of new hackmd limitations for collaborators. Content will be moved to OSM wiki when details are set, or has the consensus of the community. **== Mapping DPWH bridges on national highways, and conflating attributes and other inferrable data from the DPWH Road & Bridges Inventory (RBI). [toc] About On 13th January 2022, a Freedom-of-Information request with the Department of Public Works & Highways' Road & Bridges Inventory (RBI) dataset was granted explicit permission for use with OpenStreetMap. For future reference, the communications with the DPWH is archived and available from the public repo.

  • Common abbreviations in the Philippines and their common expanded form (or alternatives) This pad is a handy reference for contributors to the MapRoulette challenge: Review Philippine highway name strings with possible abbreviations, maproulette.org/browse/challenges/27488 :::info Can't find the abbreviation? To add more, please edit the pad. At the end of the challenge, the abbreviations listed here will supplement the existing PHL section on the OSM Wiki, which is intended for use in future versions of Nominatim, and further improve OpenStreetMap. :::

  • Stub space for the pubmat image. No, we will not do this. Overview DATUM.ph in partnership with OpenStreetMap Philippines (OSM-PH) is offering free drone imagery collection service to selected communities to enable collection of high resolution aerial imagery for improving OpenStreetMap data in the Philippines. Individuals and mapping communities in the Philippines are encouraged to apply. FAQ How can drone/UAV provide high quality aerial imagery for OpenStreetMap? Drone-derived aerial imagery can provide very high resolution (up to 2-3 cm) aerial imagery that most satellite imagery cannot provide. It can be deployed anywhere depending on local conditions. Drone-derived imagery has been used by the OSMPh community in several parts of the country (see examples below). By providing free drone imagery data collection services, local communities can improve the resolution of the baseline imagery that can be used for detailed mapping in OpenStreetMap.

  • Original post: I've been chatting with Huy from the OSM community in Vietnam, and one of the things that came up is whether our respective communities (PH, VN) are interested in doing an activity together where we can share experiences, and learn from each other. Timezone difference is negligible, and we'd probably use English as a medium. What would you like to know more about the VN OSM community? What do you think are topics that will be interesting for contributors in PH & VN ? How might you participate in such an activity? Any other thoughts? Meetings

  • "With great power comes great responsibility" - Peter Parker principle. Your time and peace of mind is precious, and we run a number of bots (Rose, Combot and fosmbot) to help us minimize inappropriate content, or spam. We are also part of a federation of OSM-related user groups, and once a user is banned in federated group, they are automatically banned in others member of the federation. ==Everyone is welcome to report inappropriate posts, including spam or abusive content.== Reply to the suspicious channel message with a /report or tag @admin in your message, and any available volunteer moderator will review the message and act (Muting, kicking, and banning are options we consider) on the account, as necessary. For abusive messages sent in private, please report the user by sending a screenshot of the message to one of the users with a star beside their name in the channel's users list.
