# OSM at openBelgium ###### tags: `events osm be` Room: https://meet.openbelgium.be/user/ast-lel-3xh-kae ## Requests from Astrid * Thank Mono design, Microsoft and Agentschap Binnenlands Bestuur * how many people attended * record the session? ## 1. OpenStreetView *What more can we do to open up streetview imagery?* - there was a closed Flemish system, where the governement was never owner of the images - this system was stopped, and we advocated to make sure the ownership of the images would be retained by the gov, so they could open it - Lidar and advanced features like measuring on the images are a priority for the gov - there are some experiments going on, but the big initiatives are all completely private - Mapillary is now from Facebook, BUT it has opened up completely In NL they have birds-eye: https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=71430 ## 2. Battle of the paths *How to deal with the battle of the paths, where suddenly everyone cares about the paths mapped on their land being mapped in OSM?* - for many years, proponents of "slow roads" have found a platform in OSM - there was an occasional complaint, mostly from people being annoyed by paths that were mapped but not useable - then Corona happened! A multitude of complaints: - farmers - Natuurpunt - Boswachters (ANB) - current measures: - standardize replies - contacts with Landelijke Gilden, Natuurpunt, ANB, Trage Wegen, Balnam, RouteYou - preliminary policy: - we believe you if you say it's private (unless proven otherwise) - we undelete new mapper's deletions - we push apps to clearly show paths as private - planned - closer relations with RouteYou - more wiki documentation Links: Official access in nature https://www.natuurenbos.be/toegankelijkheidsregeling & https://www.natuurenbos.be/beleid-wetgeving/natuurgebruik/activiteit-organiseren/toegankelijkheidsregeling introduction on slow roads, I really like this presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhd3b3T7V3Y fixmystreet chatroom: https://app.element.io/#/room/!ZOGOGPgSaKMmGOgqyX:matrix.org ## 3. MapComplete & Local gov *Where to go next in our relationships with local government (tool MapComplete)?* - what it is: themathic, generic, html-page - what it does: show depth of OSM data; make editing painless for people who care about a theme - how it's opening doors: a way for local gov to easily make an inventory of "less important" stuff that is in high demand (think: glass containers). And the data flowwwwws - technical status - mapping stats - past and planned projects - official themes - unoffical themes - build your own theme! Suggestion: quarterly project ## 4. Using governement data *How can we speed up integrating official data (GRB / PICC import, road completion)?* - PICC + GRB import - Road completion ## 5 . OSMF *What's happening in the OpenStreetMap Foundation and how is it relevant to Belgium?* * 2020 was quite a productive year for the OSMF Board * New board members: three new members Allan, Guillaume, Rory; one burned out member leaving, two of the most "radical" members leaving * lots of listening: not just osmf-talk anymore, not held back by the same five people "with influence"; individual calls, reviving relations with corporate members and local chapters; to each other finally video instead of audio meetings. Corona is a pain but also useful > risk of burnout! * a feeling of breaking a dreadlock, finally addressing core problems: * technical: small funding; taking over iD development from the corporate sector, working towards a full time sysadmin position * community building: * addressing diversity and working towards more etiquette; * making OSMF worth joining with the Microgrants * First time Local Chapters in Africa, North America, South America, Oceania; improving relations with HOT * finally easy pathway to costless membership -- a more solid foundation to support a growing project * large survey to see how they are doing > results at https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/2021_Survey_Results#Anonymized_raw_data_and_summary_statistics_based_on_raw_data * yearly overview: https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Annual_General_Meetings/2020/Chairperson%E2%80%99s_report#OSMF_Chairperson.27s_Annual_Report_for_2020
