OLS Impact

This is a public document shared with the Open Life Science (OLS) community members. You are welcome to add your personal successes and impact stories associated with your participation in the OLS program. You can also add your response via this Google form: https://forms.gle/HzNixW7jrnwCNvC37.

Guidance: Please select a bullet point and share examples of impact of the OLS on your lives / work / projects. This could be fellowships, grants, policies and documentation implemented, mentorship skills grown, new opportunities, etc.. No impact too small, and links encouraged and welcome.

  • Emma Karoune / Creating community awareness of open science practices in phytolith research (OLS2 - Project lead) and also Towards FAIRer phytolith data (OLS3 - Mentor).

    • Impact:
      • Project development in OLS2 (Raising awareness through talks, building a Github repository/webpage and formation of working group) led to a successful funding application to the European Open Science Cloud to fund a FAIR data project.
      • Upskilling in open science skills and open community/project manaagement has led to significant career progression and greater opportunities for collaboration with several organisations.
      • Skills development has led to mentoring opportunities in the OLS community but also in the participants own discipline.
      • Networking opportunities and development of open science skills has led to employment at The Alan Turing Institute and a Fellowship with the Software Sustainability Institute.
  • Prakriti Karki / GyaNamuna / Impact

    • Donated computer, webcam, speaker and managed internet facilities
    • Collaborated with 10 collaborators, local people and teachers
    • training teachers of the school (paused due to covid confinement)
    • work appreciated through different social media from all levels
