# Habs: Bases and Stations (Old)
There are two types of habs a nation can own: Bases, which are habs situated on the ground of a body and stations which are habs in orbit.
Each type of habitat has three tiers of increasing size and complexity. Each holding has slots for a certain amount of modules. A habitat can have modules of the same tier or lower.
## Bases
A base is a holding on a celestial body. They house more people and allow the extraction of resources but are affected by the conditions of the body.
### Tiers
#### Tier 1: Outpost
*A small outpost, usually in the form of a few scattered subterrainian buildings connected by tunnels.*
Automatically provides the `Outpost Core` module providing:
```
Population: 1,000
Module slots: 4
```
#### Tier 2: Settlement
*A medium sized settlement consisting of underground buildings and a few domes.*
Automatically provides the `Settlement Core` module providing:
```
Population: 5,000
Module slots: 8
```
#### Tier 3: Colony
*A larger colony sporting domed craters or ravines able to house many people.*
Automatically provides the `Colony Core` module providing:
```
Population: 25,000
Module slots: 16
```
### Conditions and hazards
Some celestial bodies provide advantages and disadvantages as listed below:
* Laythe
* **Radiation Hazard:** Population reduced by 50% as additional shielding reduces the amount of space availible.
* **Breathable Atmosphere:** Building cost reduced by 25%, ships require `Atmospheric Adaption` to land and take off.
* Duna
* **Thin Atmosphere:** Ships require `Atmospheric Adaption` to land and take off.
### Access to resources and extraction
Each ground base is consructed at a `Site`, after the outpost finishes construction you roll for `Base Resources` as defined for each body.
For example, the Mün could have:
* Water: 1-2
* Volatiles: 2-4
* Base Metals: 10-20
* Rare Metals: 6-10
* Helium-3: 2-4
* Luxury Materials: 0
* Organics: 0
To calculate the amount of resources extracted per year simply multiply the base's total `Mining Output` with the `Base Resources`.
### Ships
Ships can be built at as well as travel to and from bases on some conditions:
1. The ship needs to have an acceleration greater than the gravity of the body containing the base.
2. For bodies with an atmosphere, like Laythe and Duna, the ship also requires modules which allows it to survive re-entry.

## Stations
A station is a hab in orbit of a celestial body. They house fewer people but are unaffected by hazards and gravity.
### Tiers
#### Tier 1: Platform
*A small space station consisting of a few modules and housing for a small crew, lacks artificial gravity.*
Automatically provides the `Platform Core` module providing:
```
Population: 500
Module slots: 4
```
#### Tier 2: Ring
*A medium sized space station for a larger crew, sporting one or several gravity rings.*
Automatically provides the `Ring Core` module providing:
```
Population: 2,500
Module slots: 8
```
#### Tier 3: Orbital
*A large space station in the form of a rotating cylinder.*
Automatically provides the `Orbital Core` module providing:
```
Population: 12,500
Module slots: 16
```
