Hier gibt es mehr Infos zum Projekt: https://alps-bte.com/en/ Our Mission is to fully recreate Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein at a 1:1 scale in the video game Minecraft.

  • Hackitocki Hackitocki* brings people together around shared metrics and highly defined time constraints for digitally-infused collaboration. Hackitocki* is a concept device providing a timeframe and measurement tools for high intensity time-limited sprints. Hackitocki* is intended as part of a kit for hackathon organizers, with training formats that could benefit all knowledge workers. This is for all those who see hackathons as a mental team sport and train to overcome their personal limits. For those who would like a more therapeutic approach, questioning their relationship to urgency. For anyone inspired to lifehack a new kind of clockwork into their day. If you have been looking for a fresh way to approach timekeeping in collaborative settings, like hackathons and design sprints, you should support our campaign! (read on to learn how ...)

  • D A T A F U G E DATA PORTFOLIO FOR DD+A This working paper proposes the development of a repository to collect references and documentation about datasets curated and created by Data Design + Art students, faculty and staff. dda-frontpage Introduction DATAFUGE (from data + refuge; a working title) will be a next generation Data Portfolio developed at the HSLU. Behind-the-scenes of our data skills accelerating programs, this will be the new home of data collection efforts and experimental prototypes, complementing the visual and coding work of our students. Our data portfolio builds on and connects to existing websites like the 2022 📘 DD+A DATA FOLIES Wordpress site, which documents the final projects of students - the 📘 DataDesignandArt.ch online showreel (shown above), Instagram social media channel, and other 📘 public references.

  • Team: Thomas Maillart, Oleg Lavrovsky, Yannick Heiniger Executive Summary This project responds to Shift Five - Peace and Prevention, and Sustainable Development Goals 16 and 17. Our proposition: Hackathons are the ideal grounds for technical-artistic experimentation, collaboration, and partnership. As proof, we quickly analyzed, researched and published a new article about "The Dream of Peace": a prominent historic artwork, and a familiar backdrop to research and communication work at the United Nations. Our belief is that this artwork serves as a daily reminder of the universal paradigm of prevention and peace, echoing Recommendation 1: "Commit to our collective security". This was confirmed by collaborators from the UN Library & Archives, who were open to our ideas and very helpful in research efforts. Our project suggests a few ways in which Artificial Intelligence, Digital Archives, and Open Collaboration within a hackathon setting can support, promote, and venerate sustainable peacemaking processes in the future. image.png Screenshot from 2023-11-09 23-31-35.jpg Challenge statements

  • Velotracker map of Köniz Here is the result: How was it made? First, for about 100 Swiss Francs, I bought a rugged, battery+solar powered TTN Velotracker from Luond Electronics, some nice people on the Zürisee. Of course, I could attach my own contraption, but it would never survive the hilly roads and weather conditions through which I bike. Get your own at velotracker.ch - and connect it to The Things Network. Note that your bike will only be tracked if it's within range of an open gateway. Here's the current view on Bern in TTNmapper.org - clearly there are will be many gaps in reception: For better coverage, Velotracker gives you the option of connecting to Swisscom's LoRaWAN network for a monthly fee.

Hosted by Kanton Basel-Stadt, the BaselHack and Dribdat teams joined forces for this first occasion. The event itself was run as a mini-hackathon, with sharing of stories and pitching of challenges followed by demos and collaboration during out meetings.

Make the most of Hackathon season

  • My slides and notes added after the discussion, from a presentation at the CKAN Monthly community meeting today. Thanks a lot for the invitation, to all the people in the room, and congratulations on the 2.10 release! :tada: https://ckan.org/blog/the-latest-ckan-release-is-here-say-hi-to-ckan-210 Side note: of the roughly 40 attendees there were at least 6 people who also participate in the CKAN dev calls, and IIRC about 10 who acknowledged oldschool vibes, still: I wonder how many people got the title of my talk, a reference to Data Expeditions, and CKAN Hackathons of a decade past? Fear not the data dungeon! Image created using DALL·E 2 by OpenAI, based on data aggregators like Common Crawl, and the tireless efforts of millions of content creators around the Web.

  • Data safety on the Road (A humble manifesto for better hackathons) Journalists, freelancers, designers, everyday citizens - Demand more security in our digital life! Doubly so for people who are involved in critical investigation: all those, whose digital rights and identities may for various reasons be threatened. Opportunities to quickly or inexpensively receive a security checkup from a professional may still be rare: look for an organization in your area that has a strong policy and support options. Ask them to host a community meeting, workshop or hackathon. Diving into the world of cybersecurity for the first time can be overwhelming or intimidating if you do not get clear, direct, actionable advice from a trusted source. A network lets you get help from people for a reasonable price - or for other clearly stipulated motivations, like a volunteering certificate. But how does one find, and connect, to such a network?

  • We have collected over 30'000 responses since launching the Streetwise project, which included research into alternative street-level Image sources. We focused on using and improving Mapillary as a data provider, who have been supporting our work primarily via valuable technical feedback from their engineering team. They have featured Streetwise in their community and we discussed ideas for how we could potentially expand our partnership. Since becoming part of the Meta group, the discussion with Mapillary has not continued. We were also as a team focusing our energies elsewhere the past years, however - recently a publication about the project, a webinar in the geodata community, inquiries from researchers and municipalities in visualizing the data, have reignited the topic. What we need from a sponsor More images - we have rarely hit Mapillary quota limits, and are hoping to be able to continue collecting about 10-20 K images per month. Segmentation API - having tagged information about images could strongly increase the quality of our data.
