--- tags: applications --- # Application form ## Section 1 1. Does the 'Quick quiz' still serve a useful purpose? > I want to keep the short quiz, take out the multiple choice, and allow space for people to answer the question as if they're explaining code to someone who doesn't understand JavaScript > [name=Yvonne] ## Section 2 2. Meetups and short courses - options are a bit out of date - REMOVE > Agreed, happy to remove. I have attendance for everyone who's attended our events for this intake, if someone hadn't been around I would know. > [name=Yvonne] 3. Where are you normally resident? Not entirely convinced about what data we are collecting. It might be useful to find out what London borough people are normally resident in (i.e. it would be useful in discussions with other boroughs about e.g. funding coaching) > Happy to ask specifically which borough in London do you live in. > [name=Yvonne] 5. What is your current employment status? - "on furlough"? > Yes > [name=Yvonne] 6. "University or college attended" - I can see some people answering with "Yes" lol. We should maybe phrase everything as a question. e.g. "What university or college did you attend (if any)?" to be explicit. ## Section 3 - "Course prerequisites" is now "Application requirements" all over the website, so should probably match here. ## Section 4 5. Do you accept the student commitments before, during, and after the programme. Looks like it needs updating. "If accepted onto our programme, you will need to complete pre-course material that will take about 4-6 weeks part-time. During the programme the current cohort is responsible for mentoring our Monday and Tuesday evening meetups for applicants (each student usually mentors 3-4 times per cohort). After the programme finishes, each student is responsible for mentoring at minimum one week of the following cohort. When you're ready to seek employment, we ask that you consider one of our employer partners first."" > I think we can leave out student commitment at this point, I think we can send along a more specific brief to people we actually want to interview, including things like "by coming to an interview, you accept that you may not get onto the programme and please do not harass us", not those speciifc words, but you get my drift. > [name=Yvonne] > Agreed [name=DS] 6. Also the student agreement "Founders and Coders is a community founded on the principle of reciprocity. This means that we do not charge our students fees, but we do expect them to contribute back to the viability and development of the programme. We expect the graduates of each cohort to collectively facilitate the next programme. This course is also supported by our vibrant alumni community and we welcome your continued engagement. It costs us about £4000 to provide you with a place on the Founders and Coders programme. We earn most of our income by acting as an employment agency for our graduates. We request that you help us keep this programme free for future students by working with us to find employment, though you are not obligated to do so. We will be available throughout your career to help you find employment. If you join a company that is not a partner before we can place you and you like working there, please help us make a connection so we can sign them up as a partner. Otherwise, once you are ready to move on we will help you find your next role. Alternatively, if you are not planning to seek employment at the the end of the programme, please consider making a regular voluntary contribution after you graduate as a way of 'paying it forward', so that we can provide a place for someone on a future cohort." 7. Do you plan to seek employment in London after the course ends? - also needs updating to allow for the possibility of apprenticeships > Maybe "Are you planning on finding employment through us (either as an Apprenticeship Provider or employment agency)?" We could also keep "in London" in there if we think that's useful. > [name=Oli] ## Section 5 - "What is your pronoun" - tiny thing but pronouns are usually plural (since they come in pairs). "What are your pronouns?" ## Section 6 8. Application checklist needs updating I think there needs to be more clarity re: apprenticeships that should be added the application unless you want to only open those conversatiosn for people who we're interviewing > [name=Yvonne]
