# Identiverse 2024 Panel CFP - final __Format:__ 45 min panel with Alex Babeanu, David Brossard, Omri Gazitt, Gerry Gebel, Eve Maler, Atul Tulshibagwale __Title:__ OpenID AuthZEN: standards for modern authorization __Track:__ Architecture, Standards, Engineering __Description:__ SSO standards, such as SAML and OIDC, paved the way for an interoperable identity fabric that propelled the industry forward. It's time for authorization to have its "OIDC moment." Over the past few years, we’ve seen a growing movement to externalize authorization from applications, and treat it as a separate concern. Google, Netflix, Airbnb, Intuit, and others shared their experiences building internal authorization systems. Most organizations, however, cannot afford to build this from scratch. Fortunately, a new generation of vendors have created innovative solutions to democratize modern authorization. Yet, each solution defines its own APIs. Just like OIDC brought about "SSO for the web," authorization standards promise to reduce barriers to adoption, increase reusability, and mitigate risk. To this end, a group of practitioners and vendors, including those on this panel, helped establish the OpenID AuthZEN working group in October 2023. Since then we've been developing use cases, cataloging patterns, and drafting proposals such as an interop spec for a PEP-PDP protocol. These efforts will unify a set of disparate ecosystems into a larger community, creating a rising tide for the industry. Join us to discuss the current state of authorization, and the progress we've made on these deliverables.
