# Github Setup
This is a simple guide to getting started with github. Watch this [12mins video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxAsIobfu88&list=PLqEaji1b3wvQmL4iWelCpnhgWgFsSUo8K&index=1) for basic understanding of git & github.

## create a github account
Follow the instructions in the following video to create a new github account [8mins video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohqfCGMP_zk).

## Install git on your laptop
1. open your terminal from your vscode and type the following command `git version`.
2. if it show a version like in the image below you have git installed and don't need to install it anymore. Jump to 6mins 50sec in this [configure git user](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTgHmRX7Cfk&t=406s).
3. if it brings an error message you have to follow the instruction in this [11mins video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTgHmRX7Cfk) to install git in your laptop. After install close your vscode and open it up again and run `git version`. if successfully install the currently installed version will show.
