What is the purpose of your courses preferences order during registration?== Course registrations under the following conditions will be distributed based on the preference order you provide: 1. Time conflicting 2. Multiple class sections for the same course (courses with the same curriculum number but different class numbers) 3. Reaching the maximum credit limit for distributed courses When the course selection system is processing, courses with higher-ranked preference will be allocated, and lower-ranked courses will be dropped. #### ==Q2. Will the order of my course preferences affect the distribution order if someone else chooses the same course?== No. Your course preference order only affects your own registered courses, not that of other students. #### ==Q3. Does registering for courses in the system mean I enroll in the courses?== No. During the stage 1 of online course pre-registration, students shall register for their preferred courses, after which the system will process course allocation. The results will be posted on the Course Selection Results. #### ==Q4. Why can't I find the course I want to register for?== Courses other than Chinese, English, Calculus IIB, or Calculus 1~4 are categorized as "Other Subjects". Please register these courses under "Other Subjects". To register for the "Online English for Graduate Students" course, please use the URL link on the course selection system homepage. #### ==Q5. What is the priority of the system of course distribution for my courses if I have registered for Chinese, English, and Calculus courses and other courses?== Course registrations under the following conditions will be distributed based on the ranked preferences you provide: 1. Conflicting schedules 2. Multiple class sections for the same course (courses with the same curriculum number but different class numbers) 3. Reaching the maximum credit limit for distributed courses When the system processing, if each of the above three conditions occurs, courses with higher-ranked preferences will be allocated, and lower-ranked courses will be dropped. #### ==Q6. Can I drop courses that are marked as "Pre-assign "?== Yes. However, please consider carefully before dropping “Pre-assign” courses. Courses labeled as " Pre-assign," which are either required by your major department or are automatically selected from a previous semester, will need to be re-registered and distributed through the course selection system again after you drop. #### ==Q7. Does adding courses to "My Course List" or "“Pre-Selected Course Schedule" in the NOL mean I registered for the courses?== No. Courses added to "My Course List" or "“Pre-Selected Course Schedule" in the NOL are for just for your reference only. Actual course registration and enrollment must be done through the course selection system after it opens. #### ==Q8. Why do I need to register for multiple class sections for Chinese, English, and Calculus courses?== The demand of popular class sections often exceeds the supply of the sections offered. To prevent students from registering for only a few popular sections and thus potentially failing to enroll in these courses, you are required to register for a specific number of class sections for these courses. #### ==Q9. Why can't I register for "Japanese I" in my English/Foreign Language course?== 1. Foreign languages requirement can be “English only” in certain departments and this requirement may result in failing to register “Japanese.” Please confirm the requirement with your major department. 2. “Japanese” is the foreign language course for freshmen only and freshmen can register during the Pre-registration stage 1. Non-freshmen can obtain the permission codes of “Japanese” from instructors or register for “Japanese (Ⅰ) (1).” #### ==Q10. What is the priority order for students with double major or minor status?== For courses related to your double major or minor, the distribution priority order is: Major and Double major students > Minor students > Students with disabilities > Others. #### ==Q11. Can my registered course credits exceed the maximum credit limit set by my department during pre-registration?== While in the pre-registration phase, it is possible to exceed the credit limit. However, in the following course distribution process, the total credits for your enrolled courses will not surpass the maximum limit. #### ==Q12. Can I register for multiple classes with the same curriculum number?== Yes, but only one class for the same curriculum number will be assigned after distribution. #### ==Q13. Can I register for conflicting courses? Will all conflicting courses be deleted during distribution?== You can register for conflicting courses during pre-registration stage 1. However, during distribution, if a course conflicts with a " Pre-assign " course or with Chinese, English, or Calculus courses that have already been distributed, it will not be distributed. If it conflicts with other distributed courses, the system will compare your preference orders and assign the higher-ranked course while dropping the lower-ranked one. #### ==Q14. Why can't I register for "Elective Physical Education" courses?== Undergraduate students must complete 1 credit of "Healthy Related Physical Fitness” and 3 credits of specialized sports courses before taking "Elective Course of Physical Education". #### ==Q15. Why can't I register for “Japanese 1” as my English/foreign courses?== “Japanese 1” courses are typically not categorized as English courses. You should refer to the "Foreign Language Course Registration Notes" for details on enrolling in foreign language courses. #### ==Q16. How many courses or class sections can I register for in "Other Subjects"?== You can register for up to 99 courses or class sections in "Other Subjects." Each class section of a course is considered one course. Please be aware of courses with the same curriculum number but different class numbers. For example, “General Biology” with class number “01” and class number “03”, are considered 2 courses. #### ==Q17. I am a freshman and “Freshman English” is pre-assign. Can I change the class section of the "Freshman English" course?== Based on the University's "General Freshman English Counseling Guidelines," you can drop the "Freshman English" course and register for other class sections or courses in the Foreign Language curriculum. ## FAQs for Pre-registration- stage 2 #### ==Q1. Does the course selection result in this phase mean my final course result?== No. It depends on the selected course. Courses without capacity limit are assigned immediately after you adding them. However, courses with limited seats will be distributed at a designated time. However, a course was initially assigned but might later be canceled by the system in the following situations 1. Schedule conflicts due to courses data updates 2. Manual checks for prerequisites that cannot be handled by the system 3. Special course requirements that need post-selection handling 4. Courses of teacher education programs. Only eligible students can register the courses. #### ==Q2. Can I register for courses that are already full?== Yes, it's possible. Some students might drop these courses. #### ==Q3. How is the class schedule represented?== Class times are represented using three characters. The first character indicates 'S' for odd weeks, 'T' for even weeks, or a blank for both. The second character represents days of the week as 'MTWRFS' for Monday to Saturday. The third character is a number indicating the class period. #### ==Q4. Can I undo accidental course drops?== No. When you drop a course, the course data is deleted from your selection. To re-register, you need to follow the regular course registration process. Therefore, please consider when dropping courses. #### ==Q5. Whom should I contact for course selection inquiries?== 1. For account/password issues: Contact the Computing Center Account Office. 2. For system operation questions: Contact the Information Division of the Office of Academic Affairs. 3. For questions about which courses to take or recognized credits: Contact your department or responsible units like the Undergraduate Division or Graduate Division. #### ==Q6. How will the system process if there is a time conflict in my registration of added courses?== Courses with higher-ranked preference order will be distributed first during the system process. If there is a time conflict between your enrolled course and your registered course, the registered course won't be distributed. #### ==Q7. How will the system process if my registered course credits exceed the maximum credit limit set by my department== Courses with higher-ranked preference will be distributed first. If your enrolled course credits reach the credit limit, lower-ranked courses won't be distributed. The total credits for your enrolled courses will not surpass the maximum limit. #### ==Q8. If I want to retake a course that I enrolled in and passed before, can I register the course now?== No. Re-taking course with the same curriculum number of any previously passed courses (except thesis, seminar, special topic/studies, or courses that have been reported to the Office of Academic Affairs by home department in advance) will be blocked at the period of pre-registration. These courses can be added only after classes begin, during the Course add/drop period. You may check the detailed information in Course Selection Section. https://www.aca.ntu.edu.tw/w/acaEN/UAADForms_21111108451299811 #### ==Q9. If I do not meet the prerequisites of a course, can I still register the course in the system? Or should I apply for unblock course request?== Yes. You can register the course. However, it is advised that you should apply for an unblock course request from the course instructor before the classes begin. If you do not meet the prerequisites of the course, there will be a block of course distribution by the system or manual checks for prerequisites that cannot be handled by the system and your enrollment of the course will cancelled. You may check the detailed information in Course Selection Section. https://www.aca.ntu.edu.tw/w/acaEN/UAADForms_21111108451299811
