# **Proposal to Re-Elect Noun 22 as Nouns DAO Core Contributor (Feb 2022)** ![](https://i.imgur.com/lUN7jDP.jpg) Hi, this is Noun 22. --- **Background:** In November, [Proposal 17](https://nouns.wtf/vote/17) funded me and 2 other contributors to work in residence for Nouns DAO for a 3 month trial. As part of this proposal, I was brought on as Community Lead for the DAO. [Here is the initial proposal](https://hackmd.io/@noun22/first-residency) that I submit in #nouner-private ahead of submitting Prop 17 on-chain. This 90 day trial is set to end on February 25th, and I am writing this ahead of submitting a proposal on-chain where the DAO can vote to renew my contract for another 6 months. [Joining Nouns DAO in August](https://twitter.com/undeadnoun22/status/1431995406750208009?s=20&t=KTBaW6MM-rMjmojKfW2xnA) has been one of the highlights of my crypto career. Becoming a member of the DAO has unlocked so many amazing opportunities for me in such a relatively short time: * I've gotten to meet and befriend so many cool, like-minded, unique, talented, successful, and impressive people. * I've had the opportunity to work with many DAO members both as part of of the DAO further our mission not just to Nounify the world, but also as on other side projects in crypto. * I've had the chance to [experiment with pseudonymity](https://medium.com/@noun22/pseudonymity-and-me-9ccab9c69ca1) and learn a lot about myself and form views on the nature of work and its future. * I've been able to further my understanding about the nature of memes, their virality, and better understand the tools with which we can use to collectively shape the future. Nouns DAO is one of the most impressive communities in crypto. It makes me feel the exact same way I did when I first discovered Bitcoin and Ethereum - a sense of immense potential, an optimism about the future, a tingly feeling that something special is happening even though I can't predict the end result, and a community filled with the best and brightest crypto has to offer. The DAO has come a long way since the project started last summer. When I joined the DAO and started reaching out to other members to chat 1-on-1 about the project and organized weekly calls for members to get to know each other, I could not have imagined the journey that this would take me on, in just half a year. I have had the absolute pleasure of being community lead for the last 2+ months, and would love if the DAO would vote for me to continue the role in 2022. --- **Recap** What started as a fun experiment for me has expanded to a point where I am working on the Nouns project in most of my free time. Since joining the DAO, a few of my roles/responsibilities/highlights include: * Helping to welcome and onboard new DAO members (*if we haven't talked 1 on 1 yet, please DM me on Discord*) * Scheduling and leading weekly town hall calls * Named inaugural “Noun of the Month” by the Nounders * Assisting with communications within the DAO * Represented Nouns as a member of the Emergence NFT project group * Being active across the Discord to spur community engagement * Proliferating Nouns culture and awareness in my personal/professional lives * Being a resource to attract new and influential members to the DAO (including batsoup and some yet-to-be-named friends) * Acting as a member of the DAO’s Small Grants and Retroactive Funding group, where my responsibilities/highlights include: * Giving out 55+ ETH to community contributors - [Full List](https://www.notion.so/noun22/Nouns-DAO-Small-Grants-ac22114a6c004bafa500e2d824e32dc3) * Sorting through daily contributor applications for grants / retro funding * Sponsoring Messhup to create his [Coloring Book Proposal](https://nouns.wtf/vote/34) and running the [Coloring Book Contest](https://twitter.com/undeadnoun22/status/1478085928602279936) that was a viral success (the first of many to come!) * Sponsoring hugothedoodle for [Proposal 36](https://nouns.wtf/vote/36) wherein he will Nounify a Donut * Sponsoring maty and his work on stickers, memes, and the new server banner * Working with Oni as a member of the newly-formed advertising/operations group. --- **My Vision as Core Contributor** The term "community" in crypto is largely amorphous and can take on a very different meaning depending on the project. Nouns DAO is a uniquely very exclusive group and an aspirational brand with very high barriers to entry. There are 190 Nouns as I write this, probably 100~ unique owners, and only a small portion of them have the time to be actively engaged on a daily basis. For that reason much of my focus until now has been *interally* to strengthen a sense of shared purpose amongst DAO members - encouraging other members to become active, stay engaged, and contribute in whatever way they can. The only way the Nouns project fails is through member apathy, which happens when people don't feel like they have a read of the room, don't feel like they can catch up, and don't know what they can do to contribute to our goal of global hypernounization. The crypto ecosystem creates a constant war for the capital/attention of all Nouns DAO members. It is challenging for any DAO, especially this one, to stay organized and mission focused. In my role as core contributor, I have done my best to come to understand all members unique skills and perspectives to build a sense of culture and direction in flat org with permissionless access. Externally, I have worked to foster and proliferate the Noun meme in may ways. If my contract is renewed, I think the over the next term a large portion of my focus will start to shift externally. We now have a solid foundation with which to truly being to proliferate the Nouns meme. I view the work we have done in Small Grants to incentivize individual contributors as just a first step in what's to come. --- **Compensation** When I first signed on for the trial, I was working on a number of projects in the crypto ecosystem. Since then, I have started to spend nearly all my free time on Nouns. I plan to have Nouns continue to be a primary focus going foward. I have rarely felt this level of excitement and optimism about my work. I propose renewing my contract for another 6 months, at the memetic rate of 10.42069 ETH a month Thanks for reading and I welcome your feedback.
