## How to resolve pending (stuck) transactions on Ethereum
If you are one of the many people who owns an Ethereum wallet and made a few transactions on the Ethereum blockchain, then you are likely facing a long-running transaction. **Ethereum Not Working** Some people even reported that they had to wait hours, days, or even months, hoping that the miners would finally process their transaction.
Since Ethereum transactions need to be processed sequentially, users can get completely stuck. In other words, the longest running transaction must be processed before any more recent transactions from that wallet have a chance to process.
## Why aren't my transactions being processed?
Ethereum transactions are not processed because a miner does not collect them. But why? Miners receive transaction and code processing fees (gas) for each block of transactions they process as part of their reward. If your transaction is not mined, it means that there are enough other transactions on the network willing to pay a higher fee to the miners in order for them to be processed. Thus, if the network is very busy, the transaction costs will be higher and vice versa.
## So how do I know what rate (gas price) is enough?
The Venly wallet automatically sets the correct gas price based on network consumption, making it easy for the user to process their transactions. Advanced users have the option to modify the gas price for their transaction; higher to process faster or lower, leading to lower transaction cost but also slower processing time.
### Venly Wallet advanced settings
If you're using a different wallet, which might not support fluctuating gas prices, you can always set it manually, if your wallet allows it. To get an idea of the recommended price of gas, you can check out Etherscan's gas tracker.
## How to fix a long running transaction
So what happens if you have launched a transaction with a gas price that is too low to be of interest to miners? Easy, just relaunch the same transaction, but this time with a higher gas price, high enough for it to be collected. You will now have two nearly identical transactions, one with a low gas price and one with a high gas price. The only problem left to solve is making sure that only one is processed at the end.
At the beginning of this post, I said that on the Ethereum blockchain, transactions are processed sequentially, which means transaction #2 will be processed before #3 and so on. It is also not possible to process transactions with the same sequence number. For example, it is not possible to process 2 transactions that have sequence #3, one of them will be discarded.
This brings us to our solution, when you start your transaction with a correct gas price, you set the sequence number to the same number as the long running transaction. The transaction with the highest gas price will be fetched first, which means the sequence number will be processed and will cause the long-running transaction to be deleted because its sequence is out of date.
We at Venly understand that this can seem complicated, so we've added a Resubmit button that takes care of all the technical stuff.
We even make it super easy to cancel a pending transaction.
## Are there wallets that calculate the price of gasoline automatically for you?
Fortunately, yes, Venly Wallet will analyze your transaction and set an average gas price, which you can easily tweak to speed up or slow down your transaction. We generally do not recommend lowering the price of gas, as this can result in long pending transactions.
In this 10 minute video below, we create a "stuck" transaction and show you how you can speed it up or even cancel it.
