# Unconference announcement text draft ## Dates: June 29-30, 13-16 CET (3 + 3 hours) It is still possible to move these dates so if you would like to attend or co-organize and these dates are not good can you please let us know on https://coderefinery.zulipchat.com/? We moved this from initially a week earlier but want to avoid conflicting with mid-summer holidays in Sweden and Finland. ## Format and goal and scope To bring the community of research software enginners together in 2021, to exchange ideas and solutions and challenges we plan an informal unconference. In the unconference format we encourage participants to shape the program and we will provide support and infrastructure for that. This event is not only limited to the Nordics and not only limited to participants who are or identify as RSEs but anybody interested in the interface of research and software and data is welcome. ## What contributions we welcome In principle we welcome any contributions which respect the Code of Conduct and in principle of any length. We will try to arrange a program based on your input. Here are some examples of possible contributions: - Discussion topics - Demonstrations (tools you like, software you wrote) - Quick workshops or reprohacks (only 3 hours in a day) - Talks - Workshops and lessons: teach us something new - Can also be something unfinished and almost working where you would like to get feedback on (Let's also reuse https://nordic-rse.org/events/2020-online-get-together/) ## How to contribute ideas - Short abstract before the event, sent as pull request or issue - But you can also pitch an idea at the event but the earlier we know the easier scheduling for us - Also emails/chat OK to get feedback on ideas - There is no formal review process but we provide support giving feedback on PRs - Contributions should not violate CoC: "All participants, speakers, organisers, and volunteers at this event are required to conform to the following code of conduct." ## Tentative format - Day 1 - 13:00 : Pitch ideas + Unconference session - 14:20 : Break and free discussion - 14:40 : Unconference session - 16:00 : Official end (we don't close the meeting, though) - Day 2 - 13:00 : Pitch ideas + Unconference session - 14:20 : Break and free discussion - 14:40 : Unconference session - 16:00 : Official end (We'll need to close the meeting at some point) ## What we will provide - Code of conduct - Rooms (Zoom?) - HackMD editing - Streaming and recording (opt-in) - Website (lightweight) ## Dissemination - Member email - Twitter - Zulip - RSE Society newsletter: https://society-rse.org/calling-for-newsletter-submissions/ - ?Sigma2/metacenter slack - ?SNIC newsletter - ?Carpentries slack - ?RSE slack ## Suggestions for invited speakers To make sure that we have some solid contributions (and gain interest/traction for the event), we can invite a few contributions. Suggestions: - ... - ... - ... - Shahnawaz Ahmed (developer of [QuTiP](http://qutip.org/)) - Kristoffer Carlsson (software engineer of the Julia language, at JuliaComputing) # Short advert (twitter, member email, ...) We are organising an online unconference in June. This is a lightweight get-together where you create the agenda.
