If you are interested in the software/data/computing behind the research, and wish to talk to other like-minded people, attend and/or submit an event. https://nordic-rse.org/events/2023-online-unconference/ **The themes for this year are "hidden gems" (cool things more people should know about) and "paper cuts" (little problems you wish there were solutions for)** - anything about research software, scientific computing, data, HPC, and so on. As an "unconference", this is an informal event. Anyone can suggest talks/discussions/workshops/demos, and they don't have to be long or complex - impromptu is expected! This really is the kind of thing that you can talk about your favorite tool and lead a little discussion - maybe you don't even know all the answers but want to ask the question. They can be submitted either in advance or during the event, and we'll assign space based on interest. "Research software engineer" describes a researcher who is more interested in the tech than the papers. This event is a great way to network if you feel this describes you. You can read more at https://nordic-rse.org/about/rse/. If you have any questions, please let me know. #### For other researchers (not mainly coders) On 25-26 October 2023 (afternoons), there will be an "unconference" hosted by the Nordic Research Software Engineers organization. https://nordic-rse.org/events/2023-online-unconference/ Whether you are a "programmer" or not, you might have to deal with computers and data. And it pays to learn a little bit more - and it can be fun, too. **The themes for this year are "hidden gems" (cool things more people should know about) and "paper cuts" (little problems you wish there were solutions for)** - anything about research software, scientific computing, data, HPC, and so on. As an "unconference", this is an informal event and they don't have to be long or complex (5 min is fine) - impromptu is expected! You don't have to be an expert to attend or give a talk - in fact, we encourage exploratory talks! This is exactly the kind of audience we are for. "Research software engineer" describes a researcher who is between the science and computing - maybe more on one side or the other, but interested in working between them. This event is a great way to meet like-minded people if you feel this describes you. You can read more at https://nordic-rse.org/about/rse/. #### For staff at computing centers On 25-26 October 2023 (afternoons), there will be an "unconference" hosted by the Nordic Research Software Engineers organization. https://nordic-rse.org/events/2023-online-unconference/ As supporters of HPC, data, and scientific computing in general, we are in a unique place between the researchers and the technology. It can sometimes be difficult to find a place to network in our field, but many of us can fit in this unconference. It's a great place to share or get ideas that don't fit in a normal academic conference, or perhaps not even in more software dev/sysadmin meetings. **The themes for this year are "hidden gems" (cool things more people should know about) and "paper cuts" (little problems you wish there were solutions for)** - anything about research software, scientific computing, data, HPC, and so on. Surely you have plenty to talk about! As an "unconference", this is an informal event. Anyone can suggest talks/discussions/workshops/demos, either in advance or during the event, and we'll assign space based on interest.
