Community member type > Add a brief description of each member type below. Description Motivating scenario(s) (what's the situation or challenge that brought them here? > You might be able to think of more than one example of a motivating situation that might prompt a member to want to engage in the community. You can note as many as you like. The super-objective - what they need from the community (keep asking "why?") > What's the main reason this member type needs to engage with the community? Keep asking "why?" until you reach a final answer. The subtext - what they also need but won't say out loud > Is there an additional reason - or an unvoiced part of the main reason - that the member wants to engage with the community but that they probably wouldn't say out loud? Barriers (What's preventing them engaging in the community?) > Barriers to participation might take a range of forms - that could include time, money, technical ability or power dynamics. ## Internal community members ### Board members - Volunteers wanting to guide the direction of the association - People that are looking for a way to influence happenings of the association. - "I want to learn what the community wants so that I can guide the association towards these goals" - "It looks good on my CV" - Other duties, and the board being a quite abstract construct. ### "Active" members - Volunteers coming to meetings and planning activities for the association (some on work time, others in their free time) - People that are interested in providing for the community and spending time with others to discuss Research Software Engineering topics. - "I want to provide opportunities for the community to get together and learn from one another; - "I have the chance to influence what we do" - "It might result in nice speaker opportunities" - Time, overwhelmedness, quetioning if it is worth it. ### "Passive" members - People paying the membership fee and coming to events organized by the association - People in general interested in RSE topics, but mostly on the consumer side. They enjoy meeting other RSE-minded people though. - "I want to join events organized by others to meet other like minded people and learn from them" - "I might want to get involved some day to be more active, when more reach is achieved" - Time, overwhelmedness, uncertainty if "this is the right place" ### Lurkers - People that are not members of the association but now and then give a comment on something happening in chat - People lightly interested in RSE, want to follow along, but do not have deep interest in connecting. - "I want to follow along what is going on" - " Something more interesting may come up some day" - Time, interest ## External stakeholders ### Supporting organizations?
