Intro for new people: short motivation and main idea * See bottom of document for longer version. * (short) Motivation: create a frequent activity to bring Nordic-RSE to life. * (short) Idea: Monthly events with focus topics. Choose topics based on community interest. Invite other overlapping communities. 1. Format and scope * At least one event each month (add extra events if high interest). * Enable registration/signup? * Start without it * Overlap with RSHour? * Choose a focus topic/general concept for each date. * Can be anything from 30 min (single talk+discussion), to ~2-3h (mini-symposium, mini-workshop). * Explicitly avoid overlap with Aalto RSE? More focus on interaction/discussion/demos? * Recording and uploading videos will generate more Nordic-RSE content, and more opportunities for dissemination. * ?Anything from informal coffe break to more "nerdy stuff"? * Title: Inte-RSE-ting ? 2. Tentative schedule * Start with monthly or bi-weekly? * Always same date or alter throughout week? * Start with internal people? * Business hours or not? * Business hours seems better 3. Website? (i.e. page on Nordic-RSE website) * Add short background/description. * Add a tentative schedule. [Inspiration](https://nordic-rse.org/events/2020-online-get-together/#program) 4. Topic ideas * Pick topics that have generated lots of discussuion in previous conferences/events. * Invite representatives from other "chapters" to share lessons learned. How can we get Nordic-RSE to reach a similar level? * Preparing your code for going open source. * How to write a (good) code paper. * Julia for RSE: Kristoffer mentioned that he had much more material and demonstrations, and that other Julia devs might be interested to also talk. Create a mini-symposium centered around Julia for RSE? * Invite journal representatives/publishers/editors to discuss open science, open source, publishing and getting recognition for codes. * [What can RSE learns from industry/startups?](https://nordic-rse.org/events/2020-online-get-together/academic-bioinformatics-and-startups/) * [Inspiration from online get-together](https://nordic-rse.org/events/2020-online-get-together/conference/) 5. Teaser for unconfernece * Is it possible to have something preliminary as a teaser at unconfernece? ## Background [Zulip thread in #nordic-rse](https://coderefinery.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/213720-nordic-rse/topic/Nordic-RSE.20seminar.20series/near/240719091) **Motivation:** create a frequent activity to bring Nordic-RSE to life. A seminar series can be quite easily organized, and is timely now that SORSE has finished. It does not have to overlap with Aalto activities. **Idea:** Each event could be centered around either a focus topic or a general concept. We can set aside anything from 30 min (one talk+discussion) to maybe max 3h (mini-symposium). We can try to fill a program for autumn with various topics, based on what we feel will generate an interest (but possibly leave some slots open for the community to suggest). We can then either invite or announce that we are looking for speakers. I think coming up with topics is the easiest part: there are so many things one wants to know more and discuss about. For example, at every get-together, there have been certain topics that generate intense discussion (look at 2020 online get-together HackMD for inspiration). Maybe we could put together something very tentative, to point to during the unconference, as "the next thing" to look forward to in Nordic-RSE. **All of these ideas are up for discussion, and can be changed for the better.**
