--- tags: taskforce title: 2021 RSE survey dissemination --- :::info **Contact person:** Patric Holmvall, Radovan Bast ::: # 2021 RSE survey dissemination **Link to the survey:** https://softwaresaved.limequery.com/386272?lang=en **Official blogpost:** https://www.software.ac.uk/news/complete-international-rse-survey-and-help-us-understand-rse-community **Background:** The 2021 RSE survey is completed, and (without any notice) will be launched ~22 Nov. The survey is launched worldwide, targets anyone working with research codes (RSEs, reserachers, software engineers, students ...), aims to probe the environment in which research code is developed, takes roughly 20min to fill in, and is done in coordination with other RSE chapters (from US to Europe to Australia). See the [2018 survey here](https://www.software.ac.uk/blog/2018-03-12-what-do-we-know-about-rses-results-our-international-surveys). We need to work together to disseminate the survey within the Nordics+Baltics. This includes adapting the blog post to e.g. an email to be sent out on mailing lists, a tweet, shorter/longer messages to be sent out in private channels, and maybe a blogpost on the Nordic RSE website? Second, we need to compile a list of where/how to disseminate it, and find a responsible for each task. ## Where/how to dissemiante Please feel free to fill in more places/assign yourself. Perhaps you even feel more connected to the technology side: programming, software, data, etc., rather than the writing of papers? Although this work is crucial to the research, the modern research environment seldom fully recognizes it, in contrast to other methodology development. Take part in the [international Research Software Engineer (RSE) survey](https://softwaresaved.limequery.com/386272?lang=en) to help us understand how we can improve the situation. Your current position or job title does not matter, only that you feel connected to software, data, computation, or similar technology. The results will be anonymized and published openly, and will be invaluable to obtain better support from universities/institutes, national associations, funders and other policy makers. You can also help by sharing this survey with colleagues and groups who do research software engineering, and increase the reach by sharing it in mailing lists, group chats, blog posts, or newsletters. The survey was created by [Nordic-RSE](https://nordic-rse.org/) in collaboration with other [national RSE associations](https://researchsoftware.org/2021/01/27/introducing-the-international-council-of-RSE-associations.html). Nordic-RSE is the Nordic+Baltics association advocating for RSEs. Founded in 2017 and registered in Finland in 2021, it provides a [community](https://coderefinery.zulipchat.com), [periodic seminars](https://nordic-rse.org/events/seminar-series/), and in the future [other events](https://nordic-rse.org/events/) which can connect RSEs to like-minded individuals to promote career development. It will also advocate for the value of RSE services within the research process. Please take the survey at (open until 14.01.2022): <https://softwaresaved.limequery.com/386272?lang=en> You can read more about the survey and Nordic-RSE here: <https://nordic-rse.org/blog/international-rse-survey/> --- ### Shorter message template Do you do research, but feel more connected to the technology side: programming, software, data, etc., than writing of the papers?
