# Pre-Internship & Internship Study Log by Nissha Kinaya ###### tags: `pre-internship` --- #### [<center>Root Page</center>](https://hackmd.io/@nisshakinaya/SyigkYMaK) [<center>Daily Report </center>](https://hackmd.io/SkfSK5hjRtOLd4-wlH5ShA?view) ###### Topic: RIC --- ## NETWORKING FUNDAMENTALS **Resources** : [Juniper Online Learning Modules](https://learningportal.juniper.net/juniper/resources/courses/golden/150407_netfun/mobile/?hnw_overview) ## WEEK 1: Background of Open RAN Introduction to O-RAN ([Jan 16th-21st, 2023](/aMdL_n68SnmeRo-3ueM3AQ)) :::success **Goals** - [x] To understand the basic elements of cellular networks - [x] To understand the basic about open RAN **What I have learned** - **Cellular access network** consists of **Mobile Core** and **Radio Access Network (RAN)** - RAN-wide configuration, a single CU running in the cloud serves multiple DUs, each of which in turn serves multiple RUs - RU-DU connectivity is called the **Fronthaul**, DU-CU is **Midhaul**, and CU-Mobile Core is **Backhaul** - RRC disaggregated into a Mobile core facing control plane and a Near-RT Intelligent Controller (RIC) - 3GPP defines interfaces between the RAN components ::: ## WEEK 2: Dig deeper about 5G and Open RAN - Review about 5G ([Jan 23rd-24th, 2023](/1ncM9GvOTrurRFF1ZR0PoA)) - Open RAN ([Jan 25th-26th, 2023](https://hackmd.io/OLk-ZW2SRRSkuadZTgUTPg)) :::success **Goals** - [x] To understand the basic about 5G and the technologies behind it - [x] Reread background knowlegde about 5G network architecture - [x] To understand RAN disaggregation **What I have learned** - 5G New Radio refers specifically to the radio access technology (RAT) developed for 5G networks - 5G core continues CUPS with SBA. This enable system operations with NFV and SDN. NFV has enabled moving of hardware into software - Open RAN is “opening” the protocols and interfaces between these various building blocks (radios, hardware, and software) in the RAN ::: ## WEEK 3: Functional Split and O-RAN Architecture :::spoiler **Another useful links to read** - https://www.5gtechnologyworld.com/functional-splits-the-foundation-of-an-open-5g-ran/ ::: --- - O-RAN Architecture ([Jan 30th, 2023](https://hackmd.io/@nisshakinaya/rkQJL3Vho)) - Functional Split ([Feb 1st, 2023]()) :::success **Goals** - [x] To study O-RAN architecture and the component of it - [x] To understand the basic about functional splits in 5G - [x] To understand about Option 2 and Option 7-2x of the functional splits **What I have learned** - O-RAN functional architecture, especially in the **radio side**. - O-RAN functional splits, that there are 8 splits in general. These 8 splits is used to **pass the user data** received from the user plane function (UPF) within the 5G core from the gNB higher layer to the gNB RF. - Higher layer split (**Option 2**) is a functional split between the gNB CU and gNB DU based upon the F1 reference point. - Lower layer split (**Option 7-2x**) is based upon the Fronthaul-LLS (between the O-DU and O-RU) ::: ## WEEK 4: Summarize material about O-RAN Working Group 3, Near-RT RIC :::danger **Days off** Feb 6th-9th, 2022, I have 2 big tests and a practical work. ::: - [Notes (Feb, 24th 2023)](https://hackmd.io/5YEgCSNcR_6lDh2gMK6q7w) :::success **What I have learned** * Near-RT RIC Functions Description * Near-RT RIC APIs and the procedures ::: # Internship Started ## WEEK 5: O-DU :::spoiler **Another useful links to read** - https://univindonesia-my.sharepoint.com/:p:/g/personal/jonathan61_office_ui_ac_id/EZgWNTXM3JlMuxi3TJmCwjQBQCLb4tz03FuJ_fntp-prOg?rtime=cgz3fNAy20g ::: --- - Introduction to O-DU ([Apr 2nd-6th, 2023](https://hackmd.io/Mm2D9B1nQVG0YgwNSuoBhw)) :::success **Goals** - [x] To study O-DU in general - [x] To summarize about O-DU High ::: ## WEEK 6: O-DU High Tests With Stubs (Deploy O-DU High) - Deploy O-DU High ([Apr 10nd-14th, 2023](https://hackmd.io/UEko65_WTLORG34zjoqCYw?view)) ## WEEK 7: Test O-DU and Capture The Packages with Wireshark - Capture O-DU Packages with Wireshark ([Apr 24th-29th, 2023](https://hackmd.io/A4huXvRvT7COpXgYHTJwVA))
