## The new DAO tooling meta: Cantrips
- DAO Design space is still 99% unexplored
- In D&D cantrips are level 0 spells, can be cast at will
- DAOs are like spells! All coordination mechanisms are. But they are high level spells, pretty heavy, high cost. Literally “summoning” a molochDAO. Non trivial! MakerDAO spells - go through the whole MKR holder vote!
- There’s an important place for high level spells! But that’s not how most coordination gets done
- trend I’m seeing is more bottoms-up, emergent spells that are repeatable actions the DAO or small subsets of DAO members will do repeatedly, frequently, somewhat permissionlessly / autonomously
- the good stuff - examples! Quests, 0xsplits, give a badge / attest
- possibly: Create an event w/ fam, Nouns daily auctions are kind of like this - small and repeating, ESP?
- these are cantrips!
- what we’re going to see is more tools built for contributors instead of DAOs
- this is all part of mechanism design! The lowest hanging fruit in the space. And highest leverage. If you’re wondering what to focus on, build mechanisms.
- like Bitcoin, the best primitives will take hold and grow like wildfire (viral because of mechanism itself and mimetic potential, so the name / metaphor matters too)
## Jam:
- Governance vs. non-governance coordination tools
- top-down vs. bottoms-up (emergent)
- **managing shared resources vs. managing private resources**
-
