Week 3 Update

After consulting with my mentor Barnabe, I decided on my project idea, which revolves around the economic modeling of various prover incentive structures in zkRollups. My ultimate goal is to design a Layer 2 simulation that effectively tests prover behavior and network performance. By doing so, I aim to tackle the challenge of creating robust incentive structures in this space.

I prepared a comprehensive project proposal outlining the main objectives and methodologies for the research. I also prepared questions for the literature review and did research on the topcis of cryptoeconomics and rollup economics.

Towards an Optimal Prover Network Design

Zkrollups offer a promising solution to Ethereum’s scalability problem by aggregating multiple transactions off-chain and only presenting their cryptographic proof on-chain. The efficiency and reliability of zkrollup networks depends heavily on the robustness of the underlying mechanisms. Currently, zkrollups are in a stage of development regarding system mechanisms and aim to be compatible with Ethereum’s features, hence the need for innovation and research in this area. As an extension of Ethereum, it is essential that zkrollups embody core values such as decentralization, transparency, security and fairness.
