# Title of Dataset: --- An experimental assessment of detection dog ability to locate great crested newts (Triturus cristatus) at a channelled distance and through soil - raw data file ## Description of the Data and file structure The data is presented in an Excel Spreadsheet and presents the results of detection dog Freya locating great crested newts in four different treatment types; Sandy Soil Full, Sandy Soil Vent, Clay Soil Full and Clay Soil Vent. The findings include data from 128 trials undertaken between August and September 2022. The trials looked at the The newts were 20cm below the surface. Abiotic factors such as weather conditions, wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, air humidity, soil temperature, soil moisture content was taken. Biotic factors such as size of newt from nose to cloaca, weight in grams and sex of newt was also recorded. The data is displayed in rows with the date and trial repeats located to the left as well as plot numbers. There were 4 plots in total and four search repititions of plots 1-4 took place in one day. Location of the tube refers to where the tubes were located within a 2x4 grid setup within each plot. False indications refer to incorrect result displayed by the detection dog. GCN is an abbreviation of great crested newt. Some plots contained no great crested newt and were therefore called 'blank'.
