# Reputation Modelling: Journalist Network
We showcase how memetic bridges help a journalist network broaden its pool of writers to increase the number of stories published, without diluting quality.
Note: This is a simplistic first step to highlight key aspects of bridging. More complexities will be released as this conversation evolves.
### Step 1: Articulating the culture
**What is this network trying to measure?**
The quality of writing and journalistic integrity.
**What does the network want to do?**
The network wants to increase their amount of writers, without diluting the quality of writing.
**Why is a memetic bridge beneficial to this?**
It allows for them to borrow the culture of similar communities, and amplify specific traits in a precise and scalable manner.
### Step 2: Modelling the Reputation
**How are you planning on measuring this?**
Using a votes/likes system
**Is this based on a scale?**
No
### Step 3: Finding Relevant Communities
**What other communities are relevant to this?**
Other journalistic or blogging communities which have a similar culture
**What other communities do your members already participate in?**
Other journalistic communities like:
- VerifiedInformation.com
- SensationalistNews.com
**What other communities have aspects that would be beneficial to you?**
Larger online communities would help reach a larger audience/grow the user base
### Step 4: Designing the Reputation
**What is important to your community?**
Journalistic integrity and writing style
**How can this be negatively affected?**
False/inflated ratings
### Scenario 1:
There are two journalistic networks, HonestJournalists.com and VerifiedInformation.com.
When a new member joins HonestJournalists.com, they have the option of sharing their VerifiedInformation.com data.
This data is then interpreted within the constraints that HonestJournalists.com have set.
---
A user with a high rating in VerifiedInformation.com chooses to join HonestJournalists.com.
Due to their high rating in a similar, external community, their rating in HonestJournailsts.com starts out at a similarily high level.

### Scenario 2:
A third journalistic network, SensationalistNews.com emerges, where reputation is derived from the number of views a post gets.
When joining HonestJournalist.com, new members now have the option of sharing their SensationalistNews.com data as well.
This data once again is interpreted within the constraints that HonestJournalists.com have set.
---
A user with a high rating in SensationalistNews.com chooses to join HonestJournalists.com.
Depending on how HonestJournalists.com chooses to interpret the data, there are several possible scenarios.
If HonstJournalists.com chooses to interpret each "vote" equally, regardless of the voters standing in their own community, the differences in culture between the two communities could inflate certain reputations.
In this case, because a user has a high rating in SensationalistNews.com, their rating in HonestJournalists.com starts out relatively high.

---
On the other hand, if HonestJournalists.com chooses to interpret each "vote" based on the voters standing in their own community, cultural differences between the two communities affect initial scores significantly less.
In this case, even though a user has a high rating in SensationalistNews.com, their rating in HonestJournalists starts out significantly lower than their rating in SensationalistNews.com
