## Updates and announcements

* The release candidate for our September release of Nebari, `v2024.9.1rc1`, is scheduled for September 12 or 13. For details on all included changes, please refer to the [2024.9.1 milestone](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari/milestone/34).
- Some enhancements in this release:
* The ability to configure EKS (AWS) clusters as "private", "public", or "public-and-private". For an overview of these options and their implications on cluster networking, see the control network docs](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/cluster-endpoint.html) documentation.
* Replacement of gcloud with Python libraries for loading credentials in the nebari-cli and GitHub Actions.
* Default usage of customer-managed keys (CMK) for S3 bucket encryption. For a comprehensive list of security fixes related to this, refer to the [original issue](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari/issues/2524).
* Introduction of Rook Ceph
* Introduction of Kuberhealthy
* JupyterHub upgrade to 5.1.0
- Bug fixes:
* General improvements in Ceph initialization and deployment, providing better control over managed resources. Included fix for unexpected storage removal [#2669](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari/issues/2669).
* Fixes to nebari guided-init and several other issues.
* Upcoming changes to nebari docs
* New layout including nebari-slurm documentation [#476](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari-docs/pull/476)
* New sidebar organization [#502](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari-docs/pull/502)
* More details on Nebari's permissions scopes/roles system. Including examples for the major services (conda-store, argo, dask). Related docs [issue](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari-docs/issues/513)
* Backup and restore:
* There is an ongoing [issue](https://github.com/nebari-dev/nebari/issues/2657) for installing it on nebari.
* Currently on Keycloak is supported
