> M. Naufal Faza (TEEP) - TEEP Internship Daily Log > Date: July 20, 2023 ## Goals :::success - [x] Create a PowerPoint presentation about improving 5G AKA by doing authentication in the xAPP inside Open RAN, rather than AUSF. - [x] Explain how this approach can lead to faster authentication since the xAPP is nearer to UE than AUSF, and how it can delegate the workload of 5G core to the RAN. ::: ## Report Today, during my TEEP internship, I worked on creating a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation that focuses on improving 5G Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA). Instead of conducting the authentication process in the Access and Mobility Management Function's (AMF) AUSF (Authentication Server Function), my proposal suggests performing authentication within the xAPP located inside the Open RAN architecture. By doing so, we can take advantage of the xAPP's proximity to the User Equipment (UE), which can significantly enhance the authentication process's speed. This proximity results from the xAPP's presence in the Radio Access Network (RAN) itself. Additionally, this approach allows for the distribution of workload from the centralized 5G core to the RAN, leading to potential improvements in network efficiency and reduced congestion in the core network. My presentation dives into the technical details of this approach, highlighting the key components involved, such as the AMF, AUSF, and xAPP. I also discussed the benefits of adopting this strategy for network operators, including reduced latency, improved user experience, and the potential for cost optimization. ## Comment The process of creating the PowerPoint presentation went smoothly. I was able to include all the essential technical aspects and articulate the advantages of the proposed approach clearly. I believe this solution has the potential to address some of the current challenges faced in 5G networks and could be a valuable contribution to the field. ## Further Plan 1. **Research Validation:** In the upcoming days, I plan to gather more research and data to validate the benefits and feasibility of implementing authentication in the xAPP. This will involve studying existing case studies and conducting simulations to measure the potential performance improvements accurately. 2. **Feedback Collection:** I intend to share the presentation with my TEEP mentors and colleagues to receive valuable feedback. This will help me refine the proposal and ensure its clarity and accuracy before presenting it to a broader audience. 3. **Prepare for Presentation:** Once I have incorporated the feedback and made necessary adjustments, I will start preparing for the presentation itself. I want to make sure I am well-prepared to explain the concept thoroughly and address any queries that may arise from the audience. 4. **Presentation Day:** On the presentation day, I will deliver the PowerPoint to the TEEP team and other stakeholders. I am excited to share my ideas and engage in discussions with experts in the field. This experience will be invaluable for enhancing my communication and presentation skills.
