It combines the hardware for running nanopore sequencing experiments with fully-integrated compute used for basecalling and onward analysis. The device is entirely self-contained and requires no other computing resource. ![ONT Mk1c](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d7/Oxford_Nanopore_Technologies_Mk1c.jpg/1024px-Oxford_Nanopore_Technologies_Mk1c.jpg) :::info :bulb: **Flow cell usage** MinION Mk1C can be used with MinION flow cells and the Flongle adapter and flow cells. ::: As an user, with this device you can operate the system either offline or online, what will enable sequencing and analysis to be performed in the lab and field (where internet capacity might be an impediment). The Mk1C has a touch screen that be can be used for interacting with the device without additional hardware. Plus, the Mk1C device includes a GPU unit allowing data acquisition, basecalling, analysis and feedback, basecalling, data streaming and device control without the need of a laptop/computer. :::warning :warning: **Software update!** The pre-installed custom software created by ONT might need an update prior to the first use. You will need **internet connection** by ethernet to install the up to date versions of the MinKNOW softwere prior to running any experiment. Users are notified of the availability of software updates through the Nanopore Community (it is a bit messy), and full instructions for updating are provided in each release note. ::: ### Specs The Mk1C is designed around a simple user interface.
