| Modal Verb | Function | Example |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --- | ---------------------- |
| [Can](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/can1?q=can) | used to say that it is possible for somebody/something to do something, or for something to happen | She can speak Spanish. |
| [May](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/may_1?q=may) | used to say that something is possible | That may or may not be true. |
| [Will](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/will_3) | used for showing that somebody is willing to do something | They won't lend us any more money |
| [Shall](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/shall?q=shall) | used with I and we for talking about or predicting the future| This time next week I shall be in Scotland. |
| [Must](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/must_1?q=must) | used to say that something is necessary or very important | I must go and get the kids from school.|
