# [13/02/2021] An entry into the world of Near-RT RIC ### Salman's Notes :memo: --- ### What is the Near-RT RIC? :new: ==The Near-Real Time Radio Access Network Intelligent Controller== (this abbreviarion is so tedious and long-winded when you roll it out, so let's not use that and just call it the Near-RT RIC from now on) ==is a component in the RAN architecture that is primarily focused on executing policies that controlsa and optimizes how the RAN system will behave.== This mentioned behavior may consist of (but not limited to) parameters or certain functionalities that will be implemented such as Load Balancing, Handover Management, and Radio-Link Management. ### The RIC Family :family: The Near-RT RIC also has a sibling, that is the Non-RT RIC. While they can be considered as different components, they work together and communicate with each other via the A1 interface. ==The main connection between the two lies in the face that the Non-RT RIC makes policies== based on the Machine Learning Models that it made and the data that was gathered from the other components of the RAN system. ==These policies will be given to the Near-RT RIC to follow== so that it may properly and optimally manage the RAN system. --- Continued in the next part! --- ### References: - O-RAN Software Community - [Their Presentation at the Open Networking Summit](https://wiki.o-ran-sc.org/download/attachments/10715420/Near_RT_RIC_for_ONS.pdf?version=1&modificationDate=1569917902737&api=v2) - [The Scope of Near-RT RIC](https://wiki.o-ran-sc.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=10715416) - [Nick's Near-RT RIC Training Course](https://hackmd.io/@Nick-Bowei/H1wx1kMld)
