I'm going to introduce myself with this briefing. ## Table There’re three parts of my self-introduction. starting from about me then my Strength and weakness ending with my accomplishments. Let’s start it. ## About me My name is Belinda. I majored in Chinese Literature. After I finished my bachelor’s degree, I participated in Mobile App development courses in UCOM. In the first class, teacher asked me "Why are you here? I think you're in the wrong classroom." ."I am curious about programming and I think I can learn it." I answered him. Actually, when I was in senior heigh school, I joined the programming club; when I was in junior heigh school, I represented for school to take part in area science competition and Olympia math’s competition. I am curious about everything and I love learning. These're the reasons that I thought I can make it, and finally I did it, I was the only student developed both iOS and Android platform. During the 4-years experiences at the previous company, I learned that the improvement of one’s abilities might influence others because my behavior shows a motivated and influential person. Although that brings benefits but its small. I realized that if I can improve the working process and change the culture of the team, these would bring huge benefits not only for the team but also for the company. So that I started focusing on system analysis in 2017. In 2018 I took part in the ORACLE’s course OOAD and brought other colleagues into that course then I built a stable process of development. In order to bring better project management skill into company, I took project management course then got the certification of PMP in 2020. I hope I can grow with the company. ## Strength and Weakness * I’m a person who love exploring reasons and motivated on the goal, these might be advantages and disadvantages. * For example, let's say we have a project is about building an order number querying system. I need to know why the demand is "an order number querying system"? I love asking "why" because I need to understand the whole picture. * Sometime this help me find the core problem because I can fully understand the situation, but sometimes it would be a little bit hair-splitting (frustrating). * After I decide to work on this, I'll be very motivated until I complete, sometimes I can't stop myself. * Also, I find that pressure motivates me. I believe that stress make people grow. * So, in order not to overreact, I will do self-reflection. So that I can keep a cool head even in high-pressured situations. ## Accomplishments This is the part of Accomplishments. ### EVA Mobile v4 project -1 This is my first project while entering this industry. There are iPhone and iPad Apps for EVA Air. I joined this project in October 2016, that was in the early stage of the project. And we finished this project in June 2017. ### EVA Mobile v4 project -2 - iPad app was replaced by iPhone App in 2019, so if you find apps on app store, its iPhone version. * In this project I act a role as iOS Developer * The programming language is OBJC * There’re many functions in this app such as timetable, member information, notification, promotion, booking a flight, check-in, meal selection, boarding pass information and more etc. * Up to 14 languages and they plan to keep adding more languages. ### EVA Mobile v4 project - 3 #### In this project, the critical pain point is * Our team members were lacking the understanding of the requirements, * result in a big gape in the product with users' expectations #### How had I improved? * As a programmer, before I started developing, I wrote scenarios first to confirm the information that I received was same as users’ expectations. * For example - John is a green card member. He login into Member area, is he possible to upgrade his membership by himself? * Guide the users into a specific situation that’s easier for both parts the users and me to understand - what my question is. #### Result in * I was the novice in the team, but the time I spent on bugs is less than others. * I become SA and then PM in the maintenance phase. ### THSRC T-Express iOS v4/v5 project – Maintenance -1 This is an iOS app for Taiwan High Speed Rail, it’s a Maintenance project. I entered this project in August 2018 and lasting for 2 years. ### THSRC T-Express iOS v4/v5 project – Maintenance -2 - This app is available on app store, it’s for public. - I act many roles in this project, iOS Developer, System Analyst and Project Manager. - Although this project in smaller than EVA Air’s, but it’s also containing many functions. You can use this app to query train, book tickets, pay and get tickets, download tickets (divide tickets with others), notify the upcoming train or payment to user and more. ### THSRC T-Express iOS v4/v5 project – Maintenance -3 #### The pain point * The configuration document has already different with the app, * This app was developed 10 year ago, this is really too old for an app project. Different engineers had maintained this app with different design, so that the structure is messy. * Because of these reasons, the original project leader was going to lose the trust of the customer and influenced the company. #### How had I improved? * When I entered this project. First, I understand the reason of the requirements form the customers. * Second, thinking about how can I achieve the goal with a smallest impact within current app's structure. And will that result accepted by customer? * So, I have to fully communicate with customer. #### Result in * In addition to restoring customers’ trust in the company. * They start a new 5-years contract with us in 2020, it might bring a predicted stable income of 15% of turnover for 5 years in future. ### THSRC T-Express iOS v6 iOS project – 1 THSRC T-Express iOS version6 iOS project This is a new version of T-Express. Although they contain same functions, they designed in different UI/UX and developed in different language. ### THSRC T-Express iOS v6 iOS project – 2 * This new version is not yet available. It’s still testing. * I act as System Analyst and Project Manager in this project. * I mention “phase 2” here because we were a downstream vendor. In the phase 1, our upstream vendor said PM must in their company. It’s complicated. * The goal of this project are replacing the old system and bringing better user experience. ### THSRC T-Express iOS v6 iOS project – 3 #### About the pain point * Because at first, we were the downstream vendor as I mentioned so it’s difficult to communicate with project owner, resulting in misunderstanding and reworking. Underneath this situation, customer asked us for finishing the app development 28% earlier. #### How had I improved? * Regardless of which party was originally responsible for the jobs, I initiate to assist the project owner to complete them. * Use the “complete project in time” consensus to discuss the priority of features and the acceptable demonstration with the owner. #### Result in * We’re not a downstream vendor anymore! Because of these two projects, THSRC signed a contract with us directly. * the original demand for compressing timescale was 28%, finally it's 14% * We achieve the milestone 10% earlier * Customer gives us extra 10% bonus in relevant project! ### Process Improvement #### About the process Improvement #### About the pain point * When I entered the previous company, they didn’t have a role like SA. As a result, PG got a picture, two or three sentences from PM, and they would be required to deliver a completed function. #### How had I improved * After the EVA air project in 2017, I realized that many bugs came from different perceptions of requirements, so I invested in SA role learning and committing to improve the company's internal processes. * More often in the later period, I acted as a PM and collaborate with customers. * This is a process of continuous improvement. * I built a process at first. * Then I collect the feedback from customers and colleagues. * I measure that * Is this fit customers’ and colleagues’ need? * Did we decrease the cost or increase the value? * And I learn * Which part is valuable and which is inefficient or useless? * Then Adjust and improve the current process. * And then rebuild and repeat! #### Result in * During the tenure of the company, I built a process from scratch. This process successfully transformed the original maintenance project from a loss to a project that can bring 30% of the company's turnover. ## Final page Overall, owing to my strong experience and achievements, I’m now ready for this challenging position. Thank you for your listening.
