### What was the goal for your community in participating or attending the event?
Raid Guild is a global collective of freelance Web3 developers and designers. Nonce is a hacker village in Seoul, South Korea. We're bridging East and West by bringing hackers, from all over the world, together to collaborate, build and make friends at EthDenver 2023. Mentors, supporters and collaborators came from MetaCartel, Raid Guild, Nonce, EthDenver, Keyp, MetaCartel Ventures and DAOhaus.
### Did you reach, or exceed, that goal?
There was less collaboration between communities than I was hoping, but the bond between Nonce and Raid Guild was seeded and with nourishment can grow.
The challenges with communication began prior to arriving at EthDenver. Each community was using different platforms and, considering the time zone difference, we weren’t able to coordinate meetings with an abundance of attendance.
There were also attempts to find accommodations for everyone in one house, but funding didn’t arrive for this, which meant that hackers were scattered across various hacker houses and EthDenver scholarship beds. Luckily Nonce hosted a dinner, funded by the ETHos grant, and Keyp hosted a night of hacking, workshops and mentoring, which gave us space to be together.
Raid Guild also gifted 32 Nonce members with [Hedgy NFTs, locked with RAID](https://nfts.hedgey.finance/gnosis/0x2aa5d15eb36e5960d056e8fea6e7bb3e2a06a351/927), so they have access to token gated channels in the Raid Guild Discord and any other token gated access that may arrive at a later time. This demonstrates our intention to continue finding ways to collaborate and spend time together.
### What were the most impactful experiences your attendees shared about the event?
The Merge dinner and late night hacking have been expressed as among the favorite experiences during EthDenver 2023. They were indulgent, in that we experienced excellent food and nerdy builds. From my perspective, the combination of familiar relations and new friends added interesting complexity that kept everyone engaged. It was both safe and comfortable. We could be our weird selves and delight in each other’s weirdness.
### What were the key components that made those impactful experiences occur?
There were a lot of parts and pieces that had to come together for the Raid Guild & Nonce hack to occur. Our volunteer team, of two from Nonce and two from Raid Guild, began meeting around this specific event back in November 2022. One person could not do this on their own.
Gratitude to Sujin Keen and DukeDuke, from Nonce, and Plor, from Raid Guild!
### What inspired you to approach MetaCartel for a grant?
The Raid Guild & Nonce hack is an offspring of DAO East West, which is a MetaCartel offspring. Hopefully, the value alignment is apparent.
### What was the impact of the MetaCartel grant given?
It was challenging to get funding. Sponsorships that were confirmed either didn’t arrive, or they did but at a fraction of what was agreed upon. The MetaCartel grant allowed us to fund a dinner, fondly called The Merge, for everyone on the first night we were all in Denver, which gave us great space and time to get to know each other. It made each other familiar to the other, which continued throughout EthDenver, when we came across each other in passing or in planning.
### What was the top outcome in your experience of bringing this event together IRL?
The inspiration for a collaboration between Nonce and Raid Guild came from when I met some Nonce members IRL at MCON2. That’s also when I met Sujin and Duke, who coordinated the EthDenver collaboration from the Nonce side. If an IRL meeting in September led to a collaboration between two communities across an ocean, what could this EthDenver collaboration lead to over the following months and years?
