# Jetson Nano 2GB Developer Kit installation --- MAPD-B [toc] #### Pre-requisites - Micro-SD card ($\geq$ 32 GB, at least UH1) - Jetson Nano SD card image (v4.6.1 is known to work) `jetson-nano-2gb-jp461-sd-card-image.zip`, available at the [link](https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/jetpack-sdk-461) - A working Ubuntu 18.04 (yes, specifically 18.04) OS on a PC/VM with a standard USB - A USB to Micro USB cable - (not strictly required, but recommended from Nvidia) Balena Etcher ([link]([link](https://www.balena.io/etcher/))) ## 0. Take a look at the documentation The documentation for the Jetson Nano 2 GB Dev. kit can be found at the [link](https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/learn/get-started-jetson-nano-2gb-devkit#intro). Please do note that some of the instructions on the official documentation unfortunately do not work out of the box. In case of issues have also a look at the dedicated Nvidia fora at the [link](https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/agx-autonomous-machines/jetson-embedded-systems/jetson-nano/76). ## 1. Flash micro SD card Download the Jetson Nano image file, and flash it to the Micro SD card. This step can clearly be performed on any computer. A thorough description for Win/Max/Linux users is provided at the [link](https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/learn/get-started-jetson-nano-2gb-devkit#write) ## 2. Go for it Before you can proceed you must flash the card. It is not enough to download an iso for the SD card. Unfortunately, the procedure is long, above all because the nvidia toolkit makes us download and install a much greater number of tools than we would actually be interested in using. Before proceeding... prerequisites: - you need a properly made micro sd (provided) - you need the jetson power supply (provided) - you need to get a (free) account on nvidia and download the sdk toolkit at [link](https://developer.nvidia.com/drive/sdk-manager) - you need a USB-Micro USB cable (easy to find, supplied when needed) - it is useful to have a jumper (supplied when needed) To proceed: 1. With the Jetson ***NOT POWERED-UP***: - Install the micro SD ![](https://i.imgur.com/qb30vhb.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/zrH3ADc.jpg) - Connect the USB cable to the PC and Micro-USB to the jetson ![](https://i.imgur.com/K2sk8vH.jpg) - Put the Jetson in the _Force Recovery_ condition by bridging the GND and FC REC pins ![](https://i.imgur.com/ad7vKIe.jpg) - Open the jetson sdk toolkit program ![](https://i.imgur.com/hM1ah7z.png) 2. ***POWER-UP*** the Jetson via the USB-C while **keeping the jumper connected** ![](https://i.imgur.com/XltO7pq.jpg) - The toolkit program should recognize the presence of the hardware, but **probably not the correct Jetson version**. Select the **Jetson Nano 2GB Developer Kit version** ![](https://i.imgur.com/1rYiC0i.png) - As Target Operating System choose Jetpack 4.6.3 (or greater) ![](https://i.imgur.com/erEPajB.png) - Proceed to the next step, accepting the licenses ![](https://i.imgur.com/JUxdbOu.png) - Proceed to flash download and installation. You will be prompted to enter the ubuntu user password (must be sudoer) ![](https://i.imgur.com/3yCX3Zl.png) - A summary screen of the pending trades will be displayed. It will ___not___ however be possible to proceed with the automatic setup as by default (_quite unfortunately_) ![](https://i.imgur.com/3Ovn4Zw.png) - Select **Manual setup** and enter username and password of the first user that will be created on the jetson operating system (I suggest to use **`mapd`** and **`mapd`** for username/pwd) ![](https://i.imgur.com/VfJkldR.png) - The program will start with the flash of the card ![](https://i.imgur.com/ckOXR9V.png) 3. While ***KEEPING THE BOARD POWERED-ON***, remove the force-recovery jumper ![](https://i.imgur.com/mmnmO4v.jpg) - You will then be asked to give one last _OK_ for the installation of the SW. It is possible to skip this step, and proceed with the OS installation only, leaving the user to install the NVIDIA drivers, CUDA software, etc. Unless you wish to embark on a specific customization of the SW installation, it is recommended that you accept and continue with the installation. ![](https://i.imgur.com/HXPkwGv.png) - The program will proceed to one last check before proceeding with the installation ![](https://i.imgur.com/sv64lJI.png) - SW installation may take several hours. ![](https://i.imgur.com/W2tBEOZ.png)
