## Here na me. Where na you?
----

----

----
What do you :eyes: in your map?
---
Don't have a map app? Try this:

---
There's no perfect map.
----

----

----
:question: What's a frustrating feature or aspect of your mapping app?
---
### OpenStreetMap (OSM)
* started in 2004, by Steve Coast from the UK
* now a global project considered as *foundational*, and declared as a "Digital Public Good" by a UN agency.
* Free, Open, Community-focused
----
Have you heard of, or has used OSM before today?
----
* Do you use Facebook, Grab, Strava or Wikipedia?
* Have you played Ingress, Pokemon Go, or MS FlightSim 2024?
---
* Has anyone tried the recommended tour companion app, OsmAPP?
* Did you see anything interesting?
----

----
Let's play with OsmAPP! </p>Go to osmapp.org, or scan :point_down:

----
Using the app, try to find your favorite bike shop
* Is it on the map?
* Is anything amiss?
* Can you make it better?
----
Whenever I say "Omnibox", or see this symbol :arrow_forward: Look for a box at the top of the page
On a tablet or PC, it's on the upper left corner.
----
Type :arrow_forward: `shop=bicycle` in the omnibox, while the map shows your neighbourhood.
* if no results are found, try zooming out a bit
----
You can add/suggest details:

----
If the shop isn't on the map, do a long tap, pull-up the bottom tab, tap "Add a place" button.
----

----
The "Type" tells OSM the kind of feature you're adding. We call them "tags".

----
The "tags" in the case are:

* They're also called Key-Value pairs (KVP).
* "Shop" is a key, with the value "bicycle."
* Tags, KVP. Same banana :banana:
----
Are air compressors important for you? Of course!
----
* Add a compressor to the map
* look for :arrow_forward: "Compressed Air", for type
* or tag is as :arrow_forward: "amenity=compressed_air"
* OR, add a favorite
* convenience store
* cafe
----
Understanding a little about tags, allow you to do some powerful tricks with OsmAPP
---
* Zoom out of the map to display a neighbourhood
* :arrow_forward: amenity=compressed_air, or use the QR and copy the same text

* If you have pets, you can also try, :arrow_forward: "amenity=veterinary"
---
Are you getting the hang of it now? :hand_with_index_and_middle_fingers_crossed:
---
### Maps and Heritage Mapping
---
* Position/Pan the map to show the Mandaluyong/San Juan area
* omnibox :arrow_forward: historic=*
* "*" represents any value
* try: :arrow_forward: historic=building
----
Do you see something like this?

----
Let's zoom into Santa Ana in Manila, the red polygon to the left of the map
----

----
Tap on one of the results, and click the "Directions" button, to show you how to get there. You'll need to specify your "origin", too.
----

---
The same concept applies to adding heritage features, like
* Commemorative Plaque (aka "Marker")
* Statue
* Heritage tree
* Museum
* Artwork
* What else?
----
:reminder_ribbon: OsmAPP focuses on simplicy, and couldn't be used for adding areas, buildings or closed ways. There are others tools for that.
----
If the POI already exists, you can make it better by
* adding other details (opening hours, phone numbers, etc)
* contribute a photo to Wikimedia Commons, or a Wikidata/Wikipedia link
----
* Some things are best done on a PC or Tablet, but quick edits are easy with OsmAPP
* Offline OSM? Look for Co-Maps, works for bike routing, too!
* With an OSM account, your edits will show-up almost instantly on the map.
* A note may take longer, because a volunteer will have to fix that for you.
* If your neighbourhood looks well mapped, that probably means there's active mapper around. Some areas may not be as lucky
