# FAQ Applied IoT 2021
###### tags: `planning`
* _Where do i find information about the course?_
Here and in the [Study Guide](https://hackmd.io/@lnu-iot/study-guide-2021). Make sure to read through both.
* _Do I need to buy a 3D-printer?_
No, it's not a requirement. But of course, it's really fun and we do encourage you to explore this area. We will cover the basics in this course, and my personal recommendation is the [Prusa Mini](https://www.prusa3d.com/original-prusa-mini/).
* _Where is the course literature?_
No traditional course literature based on books. All will be online and we are going to use open sources from the internet.
* _What programming language?_
We have chosen MicroPython as the main language due to it's a very popular and powerful language that has now evolved even for embedded devices. It's fast and easy to get started, and doesn't stop you for doing even more advanced projects. Main advantage is that you don't have to compile code, the interpreter is on the device.
* _What do I need to buy?_
It's up to you; we do have a basic requirement of being able to sense something and send to the internet. Please discuss this in the Discord server.
* _What is the minimum requirement to pass the course?_
The basic requirement is to do all 4 quizzes on Canvas as well as a basic tutorial for your project. Check the [Study Guide](https://hackmd.io/@lnu-iot/study-guide-2021) for more details.
* _What do I need to get a higher grade?_
Check the [Study Guide](https://hackmd.io/@lnu-iot/study-guide-2021). You mainly need to provide a more advanced tutorial/report so make sure to tell us before hand and to discuss your idea with the T/As.
* _Where will the course be taking place?_
TL;DR Mainly Discord. But also HackMD, Youtube, and Canvas too. (No physical attendance is needed ever). Check the [Study Guide](https://hackmd.io/@lnu-iot/study-guide-2021) for links and other useful information.
All communication will be through Discord. The workshops will take place there too. Course announcements are also sent there on the announcements-channel so make sure to keep an eye on it.
HackMD is used for documents. For example this FAQ, the study guide and you will also publish your tutorial to it once that is done.
Also make sure to be subscribed to the Youtube channel.
Canvas will be used *only* for quizzes and examination related subjects. Keep the discussions open as much as you can and avoid DM:ing the teachers unless it can't be discussed publicly.
* _Will the lectures be recorded?_
Yes. Everything will be recorded except for the workshops.
* _How do I get a student role on discord?_
Type your lnu student-ID in the *onboarding-role* channel on discord and you will be given a role once we start the onboarding.
* _Do I have to attend all 3 workshop periods of the same day?_
You are free to do so if you want to. But no, you don't have to.
* _Are the workshops obligatory?_
No, only the quizes and the tutorial is obligatory to finish the course, but we encourage you to join because it'll be fun and you'll learn a lot.
