# WGS prompt: Exploring how AI interpret's gender and sexuality ### AI's tendancy to maleness: Study 1: Using gender neutral terms in prompt to assess how Midjourney Bot interprets input images without cues on gender within the prompt. To explore this I have used both a male and a female reference image and input them into the same prompts in the AI tool. Prompt: Generate an image of this person in a pencil sketch style. ![alt text](https://files.slack.com/files-pri/T0HTW3H0V-F055WD9H93R/image.png?pub_secret=9f36537b4c) ![alt text](https://files.slack.com/files-pri/T0HTW3H0V-F0564JHG3HU/image.png?pub_secret=0e3d733ce2) 2. Prompt: Generate an animated image of this person. ![alt text](https://files.slack.com/files-pri/T0HTW3H0V-F056ASHJ2V9/image.png?pub_secret=e495129476) ![alt text](https://files.slack.com/files-pri/T0HTW3H0V-F056DMJJ5U4/image.png?pub_secret=64a9cc1fba) 3. Prompt: Generate an abstract image of this person. ![](https://i.imgur.com/gBpQ7w8.jpg) ![alt text](https://files.slack.com/files-pri/T0HTW3H0V-F056PS8QN9X/image.png?pub_secret=986a509e5f) Through these examples it is clear that without gender cues in the typed prompt of Midjourney Bot the AI has a tendency to generate images that have exagerated male features from the original prompt image. Some of the most noticeable features that are enhanced or added to the generated image include: - defined jaw bone - facial hair - brow bossing ### Other ideas to explore: - intersectionality with race? - How it interprets differences in sexual orientation. - How it interprets gender roles.
