Am I eligible to apply for the Fellowship? > Yes! - Is there an estimate of how many hours per week does the fellowship involve? > It really depends on the activities you plan to organise. You can organise a single workshop and be done in two days, or organise weekly events. I am a PhD candidate working on developing and validating a simulation model (written in Matlab) the model does predictions in the future. that could be used by consultancy or stakeholders. while it could be used by researchers to gain more understanding. Also I am not the main developper there are other developpers. Do you think it could be eligible? > Probably! We could talk more about specifics in a separate call, but if you would contribute to better open and reproducible research software, in principle MATLAB code is allowed. I have a goal, but I'm not sure how to approach it. I'd like to raise the level of coding within my company. One way to do this is workshops, but those only benefit the people present. Does the eScience Center have advice about this? I was thinking maybe workshops where the materials are also followable alone, as a tutorial...? Or should I apply more vaguely and work with eScience to figure out the best method? > Developing training materials would also be in scope. Training someone at your organisation so they can run workshops on a regular basis (train the trainer) could also be an option. Practical question: The meetings, like the special interest group meetings and others, I assume they are held in-person in Amsterdam given the photos? > Most special interest groups (SIGs) are also hybrid -- so you are welcome to join in person if you like, but you can also join online. Other events (fellow's day, closing day) are at different locations. How many fellowships are you considering on taking? > Up to 20 Could a project on (random) finite element code written in Fortran get support from escience center? > Maybe! If the outcome is that more researchers / community members use open and reproducible code, and that is clear from your proposal, it could be a good fit. Could I utilize the fellowship grant to support personal time dedicated to creating software tutorials or other activties? > Unfortunately, no :-( What are examples of the use of the 40 hours with the staff from the Netherlands eScience Center? > Organising events (research software meetup) > Creating tutorials / videos > Help setting up GitHub actions and creating (the basics) of R package > Mentorship in setting up events If you would deem a project proposal interesting but requiring too large a support would you be able to advise on alternative funding schemes? > Yes!
