# Post Event Report [CodeDay Nagpur] [14-11-2022]
## Attendance :dancers:
*Was it well attended? Was there a diverse attendance in terms of gender, socio-economic class, race? Who was attending - students/professionals/a mix?*

The hackathon outperformed it's attendance expectations. On day 1 we had 198 attendees with initial expectation of 160.
Day 2 saw a fine hit on spot with 150 hackers checked in.
There's been a good mix of diverse gender and experience among attendees. We had 2 teachers present at the venue as mentors too.
Sadly @aaishikasb could not join us in the event due to poor health
## Venue :school:
The venue was large enough to contain the excess attendees on Day 1.
Connecting Wifi to hackers was an issue on Day 1 but Day 2 was smoother.
The venue was extremely satisfied with the goals and execution of the event and has proposed extended support for more iterations of CodeDays. The venue sponsors have also pitched to provide Computers to underrepresented participants in future events.
## Planning vs Implementation :paperclip:
- The event schedule was on time for most of the hackathon.
- The volunteers had no idea on their tasks on Day 1 CheckIn, so I and @karitkey jumped in immediately to delegate work to them before Check In started, helping with check in ourselves. Setting up Wifi, taking out the trash and serving food throughout hackathon.
- Understanding it was first time for lead organizer to host an event this big, I constantly mentored them and made them practice Run of Show.
- @carrycooldude brought his [OpInCo](https://mobile.twitter.com/opincocommunity) team all the way from Chhatisgarh which significantly boosted volunteer hands and experience in the event.
## Positives :+1:
*The good bits - A bullet point list is effective here*
- Healthy attendance, homogenous crowd, lots of first-time coders
- Good workshops (40% of hackers used tools presented in workshops)
- Every team submitting at least one project (some more than one!)
- Hackers want CodeDay to happen again
- A fast learning events team
- [Vedant](https://mobile.twitter.com/vedantstwt) (An Onboarding GCE) has done a great job organizing logistics and high-quality food.
## Negatives :-1:
*The not-so-good bits - A bullet point list is effective here*
- Team delegation by the lead organizers
- Wifi connectivity
- The GCEs (I and @carrycooldude ) and OpInCo volunteers were able to tackle most of the hackathon hurdles (due to our previous experience) the events team could use more organizing experience
- Food moderation, tokens could be used to avoid multiple servings (was used on Day 2)
- The budget looks bit higher for a small-scale hackathon.
- CodeDays are typically different from hackathons. Organizers are recommended to spend time with hackers than other organizers. We could observe in this particular event that *organizers seem to have more fun than students*, this is A-okay but the point of CodeDay is to give the students a better experience. (Small actions like sitting with hackers during meals, geeking randomly with hackers goes a long way for them)
## Feedback from Attendees :speech_balloon:

All the attendees who submitted a web dev project (website, game) used Replit. We shared the GitHub Student Developer pack special URL on day 1 before they started using Replit on Day 2

## Summary :thought_balloon:
Overall a great event for first time organizers. CodeDays are different from traditional hackathons. With a little coaching from CD team we can have better versions of CodeDay which align for better experience of hackers.
